Position Details

Specialty: OR Tech
Location: Bakersfield, California
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Required Experience: 3 years in specialty
Certifications: Active BLS required
Licensure: None required
EMR System: Cerner - Surginet
Pharmacy System: Omnicell

Work Environment

Unit: Operating Room (OR)
Number of OR Rooms: 6 plus cystoscopy room, able to run 5 rooms daily
Average Cases per Day: 12-15
Types of Cases:
- Orthopedics: total knees, hips, shoulders; knee and shoulder scopes; total shoulder arthroplasties (TSAs)
- Urology: cystoscopies, ESWLs, TURPs, penile prosthesis, orchiectomies, open prostates (nephrectomies rare)
- Gynecology: hysterectomies, D&C, slings, robotic hysterectomies, GYN oncology, salpingo-oophorectomy
- Neurosurgery: ortho spine, brain tumors, craniotomies, subdural hematomas, transsphenoidal tumors, VP shunts
- Hands, podiatry, DaVinci robotic cases
- Vascular: AV fistulas, thrombectomies, carotids, endarterectomies, femoral-popliteal open surgeries
- General Surgery: open, laparoscopic, robotic
- ENT: tonsils, adenoids, pediatric ENT, eyes (not required)

Staffing & Support

Support staff includes Surgical Technologists, Scheduler, Billers, Nursing Assistants
Charge Nurse assigned most days; some days manager takes charge role

Schedule & Call

Workdays: Monday through Friday
Call Requirements:
- 2-3 weekend days per month (12-hour shifts)
- 3-4 weekday calls per month
- Forced call list exists but is rarely used (rotation basis)
Floating: Yes, to nearby Mercy Southwest (11am-7:30pm, call required every other week)
