PCU RN Opportunity - Kearney, Nebraska

Position Details

• Specialty: Progressive Care Unit (PCU) Registered Nurse
• Shift: Night shifts, 12-hour shifts (0630-1830, 1830-0630)
• Hours Guaranteed: 36 hours per week
• Contract Length: 13 weeks
• Orientation: 1 day unit/department-specific orientation
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
• Holiday Requirement: Minimum of 2 holidays during contract
• Floating: Required to float to MedSurg or ICU to care for PCU acuity patients

Experience & Certifications

• Required Specialty Experience: Minimum 2 years of unit experience
• Certifications Required: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS
• Competencies: Must be competent in Arterial Lines
• Prior Travel Experience: Not specified as required

Unit & Patient Information

• Unit Size: 40 beds, average daily census of 24
• Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:4-5 (days and nights)
• Nurse Aids/Techs: Yes, ratio 1:12
• Charge Nurse: Present on each shift and takes assignment
• Patient Population: Adults with cardiac med/surg, dialysis, cancer, vascular issues, sepsis, respiratory, stroke, post stent, post pacer placement, renal failure
• Common Drips Titrated: Heparin, Nitro, Dopamine, Cardizem, Amiodarone, Insulin
• Respiratory Equipment: High flow oxygen; RNs troubleshoot
• Telemetry: RNs read and interpret their own strips

Policies & Additional Information

• Radius Rule: Candidates must live within 50 miles; driver's license required at submission
• Scheduling: No blocked scheduling except weekends; no duo assignments sharing care or schedule
• Dress Code: Navy blue scrubs
• Exams: Pass/fail exam during orientation; 90% required to pass
• Nail Policy: Artificial nails prohibited; refusal to remove leads to contract termination
• Equipment Available: Overhead lifts in half the rooms, portable lifts, vein finders, bladder scanner
• Cultural Diversity: Unit serves primarily Hispanic and Somalian populations
• Success Factors: Team player, flexible, adaptable, good communication skills, willingness to learn and accept feedback
• Return to Office (RTO): Required within 7 days of contract start; no additional RTO approved

This position is ideal for a PCU RN with at least 2 years of experience, strong critical care skills, and flexibility to work night shifts with a diverse patient population.
