Overview

• Schedule: Every other weekend; expected to work some holidays
• Unit details: 17 beds, can flex to 22 with hallway beds if staffing allows
• Patient volume: About 66 patients per day
• Patient ratio: 1:4

Required Qualifications

• Licensure: Active Driver’s License required at time of submittal
• Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, PALS
• Experience: 1 year of experience
• Skills: Behavioral health experience

Preferred Qualifications

• Existing traveler who has completed 1–2 assignments
• Triage experience, if willing to triage

Clinical Setting

• Comprehensive Stroke Center
• Receives STEMI
• No trauma level
• Rare pediatrics; patients are treated and transferred
• Common patient types include stroke, STEMI, sepsis, chest pain, psychosis, and behavioral health
• Common drips include insulin, cardiac drips, sedation, and critical drips
• Separate psych rooms: 4 designated rooms
• Security is in-house 24/7 in the ER
• RT is paged as needed; RN does breathing treatments
• RN draws labs
• Monitor techs and RNs monitor telemetry
• X-ray and CT are in the ER department
• Charge nurse typically does not take an assignment; travelers may be used as charge, especially at night

Floating / Assignment Notes

• Primary assignment is at Virginia Mason Medical Center
• If needed, traveler may float throughout Region One: St. Anne Hospital in Burien, St. Francis Hospital in Federal Way, and Virginia Mason Medical Center in Seattle
• No call or standby requirement
• No floating requirement stated for the primary assignment

Additional Information

• Parking is paid; garage parking has daily and monthly options, or travelers can use the Kings County Transit System
• Hospital does not reimburse parking
• Royal Blue scrubs
• One 12-hour orientation shift with an experienced ED RN
