Labor & Delivery Nurse Travel Assignment - Arizona (Chandler)

Position Overview

  • Seeking an experienced L&D Nurse for a travel assignment.
  • Must have at least 2 years of experience.
  • Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program).
  • Must hold an active Arizona license or compact license.
  • Experience with C-sections is mandatory.
  • Computer charting experience required, preferably with Cerner EMR.
  • Travelers must pass a dysrhythmia exam (80% passing score, max 2 attempts) before starting.
  • Pass/fail simulation lab on day 1 of orientation.
  • COVID vaccine required or approved declination form.

Contract Length

  • 13 weeks

Unit Details

  • Unit: Labor and Delivery
  • Beds: 18 LDRP’s, 14 OB triage, 8 Antepartum
  • Average deliveries: 8-10 per day (322-344 per month, ~3863 per year)
  • Operating Rooms: 2 fully equipped OR suites for C-sections
  • Nurse-to-patient ratios: Mostly 2:1 depending on acuity; Antepartum 4:1; C-sections 1:1
  • Staffing aims to meet AWHONN guidelines, though not always daily

Certifications & Skills

  • ACLS, BLS, NRP required
  • Must be comfortable with dysrhythmia knowledge and passing the exam
  • Must be able to circulate and recover C-sections confidently
  • Must titrate Pitocin and Magnesium Sulfate per protocol

Technology & Equipment

  • EMR: Cerner
  • EFM System: Fetal Link
  • Respiratory Therapy (RT) available 24/7, including vents, CPAP, BiPAP
  • Anesthesia available 24/7
  • IV Team available if needed
  • Pharmacy available 24/7

Work Schedule & Orientation

  • Shift: Nights (7:00 PM - 7:00 AM)
  • Weekend requirement: 4 weekend shifts per schedule
  • Holidays: Coverage preferred for 2 of 3 major holidays
  • Call/standby: Voluntary, not required
  • Orientation: 1 week floor-specific orientation
  • Floating: May float to Mother-Baby/Postpartum unit as needed

Additional Information

  • No nurse aides on unit
  • Scrub color: Blue (scrubbing not necessary)
  • No telemetry or ventilator management required by nurse
  • OB Hospitalist in-house
  • Level II NICU (gestations 28 weeks and greater)
  • Level 1 Trauma Center
  • Common patient types: Laboring or preterm pregnant patients
  • Patients transferred to postpartum after delivery
