Job Opportunity: RN - ICU (MSICU)

Location: San Antonio, Texas
Employment Type: Travel Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Unit & Facility Overview

  • Unit: Medical-Surgical Intensive Care Unit (MSICU, 7C)
  • Facility: Large hospital with a broad range of specialties including cardiology, cancer care, emergency medicine, neurosciences, maternity care, gynecology, and orthopedics.
  • Patient-focused care with faith-based philosophies.
  • Documentation system used: Meditech

Shift Details

  • Shifts: 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM or 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM
  • Weekend: Rotating schedule
  • Call: No call requirements
  • Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours/week
  • Floating: All travelers are required to float within the hospital

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse (RN) in ICU
  • Minimum ICU experience: 3 years (higher value between 1 and 2-3 years taken)
  • Certifications:
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
    • BLS (Basic Life Support)
    • NIH Stroke Certification
  • Licensure: Active Texas RN license required (temporary licenses NOT accepted)

Preferred Skills

  • Experience in MICU & MSICU settings
  • Familiarity with Meditech charting and order entry

  • Chest tubes
  • Tracheostomies
  • GI scopes
  • Intubations
  • Central lines and arterial lines
  • NG tubes
  • Foley catheters
  • Dressing changes

Unit Policies & Guidelines

  • Must badge in and out for each shift
  • Full 30-minute lunch break required
  • Punctuality is strictly enforced (clock-in by 6:38 AM/PM; after 6:45 considered tardy)
  • Floating policy applies to all travelers

Dress Code

  • Scrubs: Navy scrub top and pants; navy or white scrub jacket
  • Nails: Clean and healthy
  • Hair: Neat, clean, no extreme styles or colors
  • Facial hair: Clean and neatly trimmed
  • Tattoos: Should be covered whenever possible; exceptions handled individually
  • Piercings: Only ear piercings allowed; all other visible piercings prohibited

Techs stay on the scanner and don't allow other techs to scan, so your setting up all the scans all day sometimes. .
