Unit Information

Unit: Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU)
Number of Beds: 16
Patient Ratios: 1:2, with 1:1 for certain device patients
Staffing Support:
- Free floating charge nurse available
- Unit secretary and Administrative Care Tech available Monday-Friday, 7:30 AM - 3:30 PM
- Student Nurse Externs assist with tech duties on variable shifts
Equipment: Phillips bedside telemetry monitors, Hill-Rom beds, Alaris IV pumps
Documentation System: Meditech
Scheduling Requirements:
- 2 weekends per month
- 1 summer holiday (Memorial Day, July 4th, or Labor Day)
- 2 winter holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year’s Eve, New Year’s Day)
Floating Policy: Contract/Travel employees float as needed, typically to other ICUs or other floors

Required Skills and Experience

Minimum Years of Experience: 2 years in critical care nursing
Specialty Experience: Strong critical care experience including CVICU experience required
Advanced Skills:
- Proficient with PA catheter and hemodynamic monitoring
- Preferred experience with IABP, Impella, and CRRT
Procedures Performed:
- Care for immediate post-operative cardiac surgery patients
- Management of ECMO, Centrimags, and HM3 LVADs
- Central line insertion, Swan-Ganz catheter insertion, intubations performed on unit
Certifications Required:
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- NIH Certification
Licenses: Valid Registered Nurse License
