Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (RN) - ICU

Location: Reno, Nevada
Employment Type: Travel Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Position Overview

• Role: Registered Nurse - ICU (Medical ICU)
• Department: Medical ICU (8-bed unit)
• Shift: Nights, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (18:45 - 07:15)
• Weekly Hours: 36 hours guaranteed
• Call: Not required
• Float Requirements: May be required to float to Med/Tele, ED/GSU, or Regional campus ICUs (trauma/surgical, cardiac, neuro, step-down, tele units)
• Additional Shift: Must be able to pick up an additional 12-hour shift every 4 weeks

Unit Description

• 8-bed Medical ICU with 1 Critical Care Technician per shift
• Chest pain accredited center (no Cath Lab or IR on-site)
• Patients requiring Cath Lab or IR are transferred to a regional campus
• ICU Charge RN also serves as Rapid Response RN
• Intensivists rotate weekly with 24/7 on-call coverage during their week
• Fast-paced, busy environment serving a large geographic area
• Level 2 trauma center with stroke accreditation

Required Qualifications

• Licensure: Nevada RN license required prior to start
• Certifications:

  • BLS (AHA)
  • ACLS (AHA)
  • NIHSS (APEX)
• Experience: Minimum 2 years of Medical ICU experience required
• Prior Travel Experience: Preferred but not required

Job Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive nursing care to adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients in the ICU
• Utilize nursing process to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care
• Coordinate care with other healthcare professionals
• Address cognitive and psychosocial needs specific to ICU patients
• Deliver safe, high-quality patient care in a fast-paced environment
• Engage families/caregivers as part of the care process

Work Environment

• Level 2 trauma center with 800 inpatient beds and 80 ER beds
• High volume and fast-paced setting comparable to a Level 1 trauma center
• Stroke accredited facility with a focus on heart attack, heart failure, pneumonia, and surgical care
