Job Summary
Provide nursing care to patients primarily on a Medical-Surgical Telemetry unit with the ability to float to ICU 30%-40% of the time. Administer safe, efficient, and courteous nursing care using appropriate procedures and demonstrate knowledge of patient growth and development across the lifespan. Utilize critical thinking to assess patient status, interpret clinical data, and provide evidence-based care to improve health outcomes.
Contract Length
- 13 weeks
Required Experience
- 3 to 5 years of nursing experience
- Minimum 1 year ICU/Inpatient experience preferred for ICU float
Required Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing (Associate degree required; Bachelor’s preferred)
- Current Registered Nurse license in Colorado (Compact license accepted; Colorado license must be obtained within 90 days of hire)
- Current BLS certification
- Current ACLS certification (within 6 months of hire)
- Current PALS certification (within 6 months of hire; can be obtained at facility if not currently held)
- Successful completion of EKG course within 4 months of hire
- For Family Birthing Care (FBC) float: Basic fetal monitoring course and NRP certification within 4 months of hire

Key Responsibilities
- Practice within nursing standards, hospital policies, and accreditation standards
- Provide patient-centered care, team collaboration, and excellent customer service
- Supervise non-professional staff and assist physicians with patient care and procedures
- Administer medications following protocols, including controlled substances and EMAR scanning
- Initiate and revise patient care plans based on co-morbidities and patient needs
- Maintain knowledge of telemetry monitoring and basic arrhythmia interpretation
- Participate in in-service training, departmental meetings, and resuscitation drills
- Adhere to safety, infection control, and confidentiality standards
- Assist nursing staff in other departments as needed
- Utilize technology for documentation and patient outcome management
- Demonstrate flexibility with shifts and working hours to meet staffing needs
Unit-Specific Duties (for ICU and Family Birthing Float)
- Intensive Care Unit: Rapid sequence intubation, advanced cardiac monitoring, ventilator/BiPAP management, trauma alerts, critical drips, CVP and A-line monitoring
- Family Birthing: Antepartum, intrapartum, postpartum care including complications, fetal monitoring, newborn care (delivery to discharge), epidural, induction, newborn hearing screening, pre-term care, infant security, EMTALA, CCHD screening, phototherapy
Skills and Abilities
- Effective verbal and written communication in English
- Strong organizational and active listening skills
- Basic computer proficiency
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Ability to work with diverse cultural and religious patient populations
Work Environment and Physical Demands
- Exposure to infectious waste, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, and occasional foul odors
- Moderate to loud noise levels; possible interactions with aggressive patients or visitors
- Exposure to environmental elements such as heat, cold, precipitation, and wind
- Physical demands include lifting up to 100 lbs occasionally, frequent kneeling, crouching, reaching, and fine auditory and visual skills
