Unit Specifics
- Unit Name: 611 – 4th Floor Med/Surg
- Number of Beds: 46
- Patient Ratios: 6:1
- Staffing Description: Includes Clinical Nurse Coordinators, RNs, LPNs, PCTs, Nurse Externs, and Unit Clerks.
- Type of Equipment: GE Apex Pro Telemetry box, Hoyer lift, Sara Steady, Baxter IV pumps, iMobile, Alaris PCA IV pump, Welch Allen Vitals machine, Glucometer.
- Documentation System: Meditech Expanse
- Scheduling Requirements: Every other weekend, three 12-hour shifts per week.
- Floating Policy: May float to 3 South (post-surgical med/surg) or to PCU (to staff tele overflow).
Experience Requirements
- Patient Experience Requirements: At least two years of med/surg experience.
- Requested Skill Set: General med/surg skills, EKG interpretation, CPAP management, port access.
- Must Have: Telemetry experience, post-Percutaneous Coronary Intervention experience.
- Advanced Skills Preferred: Experience with chest tubes, NG tubes, wound vac, drains, post-dialysis assessment skills, central lines, blood transfusions.
- Procedures Performed on Unit: Telemetry monitoring, paracentesis.
Certifications Required
- Active nursing license in good standing (with compact if indicated).
- BLS required, ACLS preferred, current NIH certification (must be certified annually).
Dress Code
- Required uniform: Navy blue or gray scrubs. No T-shirts, fleece jackets, or sweatshirts. Staff may wear any color or patterned scrub jacket and long sleeve shirts under scrub tops. No royal blue scrubs permitted.
