Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (CICU RN)
Location: Columbia, South Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Details
- Specialty: CICU Registered Nurse
- Shift: 3x12 hour shifts, Nights (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
- Patient Ratios: 1:1-2
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend (12 shifts during contract)
- On-call: May be placed on call for low census, but no additional call shifts required
- Floating: Required to float within scope to meet facility needs, including sister units/facilities
Requirements
- Experience: Minimum 2 years required
- License: South Carolina RN license or Multi-State/Compact RN license
- Certifications Required:
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- NIHSS (NIH Stroke Scale Certification)
- Preferred Equipment Experience: CRRT - Prismax
- First-time travelers: Accepted
Scheduling & Work Conditions
- Block Scheduling: Possible with manager approval, dependent on unit needs
- Local Radius: 60 miles
- Locals Accepted: Yes, on a case-by-case basis
- Guaranteed Hours: Facility may call off 1 shift per 2 weeks

Important Notes
- Hurricane Season: June through November; employees and contractors may be assigned to emergency response teams during this time. Peak months are August and September. Consider this before accepting or extending assignments.
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
Licensure & Certifications
- SC RN license or Compact license required with primary source verification
- NURSYS verification required for all RNs
- ACLS, BLS, NIHSS certifications must be current (no expiration within 30 days of start)
- Other certifications (PALS, TNCC, NRP, EFM) as applicable to unit
- Education verification required; diploma or transcripts accepted as placeholder if needed
Background Checks
- Annual background check covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years
- Must include SSN trace, statewide, sex offender registry, national criminal, FACIS 3
- Background check must be run within 90 days of start
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and updated for renewals
Health & Immunizations
- Physical exam within 90 days of start, updated annually, confirming ability to work without restrictions
- Tdap vaccine within 10 years or declination form required
- Negative TB test (T-spot or Q-Gold) within 90 days of start; follow-up for positive tests required
- Required immunizations or proof of immunity: Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B
- 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start
- Seasonal flu vaccine required during flu season (Aug 1 - Apr 30), or medical/religious exemption accepted (no declinations)
- COVID-19 vaccinations highly preferred; declination form required if not vaccinated
- Respirator medical clearance (RespSafety) required annually
Facility Specific Documents & Orientation
- Completion of First Day Instructions (FDI) and OurDay modules prior to start (approx. 2-6 hours depending on location)
- Clear, passport-style photo for badge required
- Completion of facility-specific forms including confidentiality, contractor forms, ID badge request, and job description acknowledgment
- References: Minimum 2 clinical references required, including at least one from the unit of assignment
- Employment application/resume with full work history, including PTO and contract assignments, no unaccounted gaps
- Skills checklist updated annually
Additional Notes
- Radiation badge not required for this position
- Floating may be required within similar units or sister facilities
- Facility may call off shifts but guarantees most scheduled hours
- Travelers must be prepared for possible emergency assignments during hurricane season
This position is ideal for experienced CICU RNs who are flexible with night shifts, weekend work, and floating within the facility system. Compliance with all licensure, certification, background, and health requirements is mandatory prior to start.
