Registered Nurse - Step Down

Overview

Location: Burlingame, California
Employment type: Travel/Contract
Contract length: 13 weeks
Shift: Night, 3 x 12 hours (19:00-07:00), 36 hours per week
Weekend requirement: Every other weekend

Required Qualifications

Valid RN license in California
1 year of stepdown experience within the last year
ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
BLS issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
NIHSS (NIH Stroke Certification)
Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) / Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
Experience working with medical patients
Experience working with post-cardiac cath patients
Experience working with neuro patients
Experience with BiPAP
Experience with high-flow O2 therapy
Experience with heparin infusions
Experience with diltiazem
Experience with amiodarone
Cardiology experience
Stroke experience

Onboarding Requirements

Background: 7-year background check within 6 months of start, plus sex offender and federal exclusion screenings
Education: Verification of highest education level achieved
Employment history: Full 7 years of work history on the application with no gaps; work history verification; 2 professional references for acute care
Competencies: Competency exam (minimum passing score 80% unless the Angoff score is higher); medication/pharmacology competency exam as applicable; unit-specific skills checklist
Post-start testing: EKG exam onsite after start for ICU and MS/Tele RNs at certain locations
Health and immunizations: Physical exam within 1 year; TB questionnaire within 90 days and TB screening (IGRA or PPDs) within 90 days; negative chest X-ray within 1 year only if the TB questionnaire is positive; Tdap within 10 years; MMR, varicella, and hepatitis B immunity or vaccination; proof of seasonal flu vaccination during flu season (November 1 to April 30); 9-panel drug screen within 6 months; in-person color vision exam if applicable; mask fit test within 1 year
Other: RespSafety clearance (renewed annually); passport-style badge photo; EHR questionnaire for RNs (for new candidates starting 11/3/2025 and later)
