Step-Down Registered Nurse

Job Overview

  • Location: Auburn, New York
  • Employment type: Travel/Contract
  • Shift: Day, 4x12 hours, 7:00 AM–7:30 PM
  • Guaranteed hours: 36 per week
  • Schedule notes: Every other weekend and every other holiday; no blocked scheduling
  • Patient ratio: 1:4–5
  • Medication system: Pyxis
  • Local candidates: Accepted

Required Qualifications

  • Valid New York RN license
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • BLS - Basic Life Support issued by the American Heart Association
  • ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support issued by the American Heart Association
  • NIHSS
  • 2 years of Step-Down experience
  • Step-Down experience within the last year

Key Clinical Experience

  • Step-Down nursing
  • Cardiac monitoring and dysrhythmia interpretation/management
  • 12-lead EKG/ECG
  • IV start and maintenance
  • PICC line management
  • Blood product administration
  • Emergency medication administration
  • Procedural sedation administration/monitoring
  • Cardiac drip titration
  • CVA / acute stroke management
  • BiPAP / CPAP management
  • Chest tube insertion/removal assistance
  • Infection prevention and isolation precautions/PPE
  • Phlebotomy

Unit Patient Population

  • Congestive heart failure
  • Post–heart catheterization care
  • Post-vascular procedure monitoring
  • Respiratory failure requiring BiPAP, CPAP, or Vapotherm
  • Cardiac dysrhythmias

Unit Procedures

  • TR band management
  • Frequent vital signs and neurovascular checks

Compliance / Onboarding Requirements

  • Unexpired government-issued photo ID
  • Background check covering all locations lived/worked/in school for the past 7 years
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM screening
  • HHS/OIG screening
  • Orientation safety manual acknowledgement
  • Stroke education and NIH Stroke Scale training
  • Telemetry pass/fail assessment
  • NURSYS verification
  • Primary source license verification
  • Annual tuberculosis screening questionnaire
  • Full physical exam within 12 months of start
  • Fit test within 12 months of start, then annually
  • Tdap within the last 10 years or declination
  • TB test or chest X-ray documentation
  • Measles, mumps, and rubella immunity documentation
  • Hepatitis B documentation
  • Varicella documentation
  • Drug screen within 30 days of start
  • Flu vaccination or declination during flu season
  • COVID vaccination records or declination
  • 2 professional references within 3 years of hire
  • Skills checklist
  • New York Nurse Aide Registry check
  • New York State Medicaid Exclusion List check

  • Candidates within 50 miles of the facility receive a lower travel rate.
