Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - Home Health
Location
- Chesapeake, Virginia
- Territory coverage includes Suffolk, Franklin, Windsor (up to 75 miles radius from home clinic)
- Average travel approximately 200 miles per week
- Local candidates accepted
Employment Type
- Travel/Contract
- Typical contract length: 13 weeks
- Schedule: Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM (5x8 hours)
- Weekend rotation: 1 weekend per month
- On-call: 1 week per month
Job Description
- Provide and coordinate home nursing care based on physician orders and agency policies
- Supervise and evaluate Home Health Aides and Licensed Practical Nurses/Licensed Vocational Nurses
- Manage an average of 5-8 patients per day
- Types of visits include Start of Care, Wound Care, Follow-up Visits, etc.
- Documentation and travel are part of daily activities, with patient visits assigned between 5-10 per day
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 1 full year of recent Adult Home Health experience or 1 full year Hospice experience (depending on specialty)
- First-time travelers not accepted; recent specialty experience required
- Current, valid Registered Nurse (RN) license for Virginia (license must be in hand; pending licenses not accepted)
- CPR and BLS certification required (AHA, National CPR Foundation, or ARC accepted)
- Proficiency with HomeCare HomeBase (HCHB) within the last 6 months required; if not current, retraining is mandatory
- RNs must be proficient in OASIS documentation
- Reliable transportation, current driver’s license, and agency-required liability insurance required
Additional Requirements
- Must complete various background checks including state-specific and federal screenings
- Physical exam within 12 months confirming good health and no communicable diseases, updated annually
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months, updated annually
- Immunization or titer proof for Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella required per standard
- Drug screening (10-panel) required
- Seasonal flu vaccination or documented declination required
- COVID-19 vaccination series or declination required
- Must complete required compliance and policy reviews, quizzes, and sign supplier packets at assignment start and annually if working consecutively over one year
- Must complete home health-specific policy acknowledgements and scenario reviews prior to start
Work Environment
- Dress code: Scrubs
- Work involves home visits with periodic office meetings
- Mileage reimbursed at IRS standard rate for travel between patient homes (commute to/from first and last patient not reimbursed)
Notes
- Weekend and on-call requirements vary by location and will be discussed during the interview
- Contractor may be floated to nearby clinics if patient census is low to maintain hours
- Extensive state-specific documentation and background requirements apply depending on placement location
