Shift: Day or Night (3 shifts of 12 hours each; 7:00 AM–7:00 PM or 7:00 PM–7:00 AM)

Job Description
- Work in a Cardiac Surgery Intensive Care Unit (CSICU)
- Must have experience in CSICU or CVICU at a Level 1 facility
- EPIC electronic health record experience required (no exceptions)
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Virginia (permanent license only; temporary licenses not accepted)
- Minimum of 1 year of CVICU experience, with experience within the last year required
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Experience with EPIC electronic health record system
Experience Requirements
- Prior travel experience not explicitly required
- CSICU/CVICU experience at a Level 1 facility mandatory
Background and Screening Requirements
- Criminal background check within 60 days of start, including:
- All states lived/worked in past 7 years
- State of permanent residence
- VA Statewide Repository Search
- Sex offender registry
- Education verification
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start
- Virginia State Police National Criminal Background Check fingerprint results required for RNs in Pediatrics, NICU, Behavioral Health, and Labor & Delivery units (results can pend if proof of submission is on file)
- Virginia Central Registry (CPS) search required within 48 hours of contract signing for certain units; candidates may start with results pending if submission proof is on file
- Fingerprinting required as per unit/facility specifics; proof of submission must be on file prior to start
Health and Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year attesting ability to meet physical demands
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine or declination required
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray per specified timelines (Q-gold/T-spot or two PPDs)
- Annual TB questionnaire required regardless of TB status
- Titers required for Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella, and Varicella; booster required if low titer
- Hepatitis B titer, vaccine series, or declination required
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption required for the 2025-26 season (declinations not accepted; agency exemption form required)
- Drug testing within 60 days of start (9-panel minimum, instant drug screens not accepted)
Competency and Orientation Requirements
- Medication test/pharmacology competency exam required for RNs
- Abuse reporting competency covering physical/sexual abuse, domestic violence, neglect, or exploitation of vulnerable adults
- Color blindness testing required
- Competency exams and unit-specific certifications as outlined in unit job descriptions
- Orientation includes exams/tests such as Pharmacology, Point of Care Testing, Airborne Precaution Mask Fitting, and Basic Knowledge Assessment Tool (BKAT) for ICU and Tele/Step-Down units
- Completion of assigned learning modules (~6 hours) during orientation week required
Additional Notes
- No onsite certification renewals; all certifications must be current at start (no expiring within 1 month of contract start)
- Candidates must bring mask (cloth acceptable), non-wireless headphones, and a laptop or cell phone to orientation (notify if not available)
- Performance evaluations are completed at end of assignment, not required prior to start
