Job Opportunity: PCU Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Mount Vernon, Illinois
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each; 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Description

• Position: Progressive Care Unit (PCU) Registered Nurse
• First-time travel nurses are accepted
• Required skills include telemetry, cardiac telemetry, cardiac monitoring, emergency response, IV starts, chest tubes, cardiac drips, bedside cardioversion
• Clinical experience with COPD, CAD, CHF, AFib, Sepsis, and COVID patients
• Experience with Epic electronic health record system is required
• Navy scrubs required

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Illinois
• Minimum 1 year of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience within the last year
• Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
• Certifications:

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by American Heart Association
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification (must be updated annually)
• Clinical skills and experience with:

  • Cardiac telemetry
  • Chest tubes
  • Cardiac drips
  • Bedside cardioversion
  • Coronary artery disease (CAD)
  • Sepsis
  • COVID patient care
• Experience with Epic electronic health record system

Compliance and Documentation Requirements

• Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID)
• Criminal background check within 12 months, including SSN trace, 7-year county residence/work history, nationwide search, and sex offender search
• Negative drug screen within 12 months of start
• Physical exam within 1 year indicating good health
• TB test (PPD, Qgold, or TSPOT) within 12 months; chest x-ray within 5 years if prior positive PPD
• Immunizations or proof of immunity for:

  • Rubeola (Measles)
  • Mumps
  • Rubella
  • Varicella
  • Hepatitis B (titer, series, or declination)
• Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption (must be renewed annually)
• COVID vaccination series preferred but not mandatory
• OSHA Respirator Clearance required prior to start for fit testing (fit testing completed onsite during orientation)
• Completion of facility-specific orientation modules and documents prior to or during orientation
• Photo for badge (passport style, plain background) required

Competency Requirements

• Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required for PCU nurses
• Skills checklist required

Additional Notes

• Fit testing for respirators will be done onsite during the first week of orientation; failure to submit fit test results within two weeks may result in removal from assignment
• Candidates must complete all required facility-specific compliance modules annually
• Post-start orientation checklists must be completed and submitted within the first week of assignment
• Background and credential verifications are required prior to start and must meet facility standards

This position offers an opportunity to work in a specialized PCU setting with a focus on cardiac and telemetry nursing during night shifts. It is suitable for nurses with at least one year of experience who are comfortable with telemetry monitoring and emergency cardiac interventions.
