Neuro ICU Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position

Location: Columbia, Missouri
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Employment Type: Travel/Contract
  • Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each; 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM)
  • Hours per Week: 36
  • Float between ICU and Medical-Surgical units
  • Work every other weekend and 50% of holidays
  • No local candidates within 50 miles accepted
  • Physically active role requiring ambulation, reaching, and moving objects over 20 lbs
  • Exposure to contagious illnesses possible
  • Facility operates 24/7, requiring rotating shifts, holiday work, and work during inclement weather

Required Experience & Skills

  • Minimum 2 years of Registered Nurse experience
  • ICU experience required with strong neurological skills
  • Stroke experience required
  • First-time travel nurses are welcome

Required Certifications & Licenses

  • Registered Nurse license valid in Missouri (Primary Source Verification required within 60 days of start)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA or ARC Provider card required
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA or ARC Provider card required
  • CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) preferred but not mandatory; can be completed onsite if needed

Essential Job Functions

  • Ability to work full contract term at assigned location
  • Ability to work full assigned shifts, including call, weekends, and at least 50% of holidays

Background & Screening Requirements

  • 7-year background check required within 60 days of start, including alias/all names, counties lived/worked/school, national and federal criminal searches, sex offender search, social security trace, and exclusions screening (EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG)
  • International background check required if candidate traveled outside the USA in the last 7 years
  • Missouri Family Care Safety Registry (FCSR) or Missouri Caregiver search required and must be on file before start
  • Drug screening: Negative 7-panel drug test within 60 days of start
  • NURSYS verification of RN license within 60 days of start

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start (must be initiated within 48 hours of signing)
  • Fit mask test valid within 1 year (3M 1870+, 1860R, 1860S, or 9205) required
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccination within 10 years or approved exemption
  • Negative TB test (QGold, TSpot, or 2-step PPD) within 1 year or chest x-ray for positive TB with proof of treatment
  • Measles, Mumps, Rubella: Positive titer or 2 MMR vaccines (at least 1 after 1980) required
  • Hepatitis B series or positive/reactive titer required; declinations no longer accepted for new candidates after 7/1/2023
  • Varicella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Oct 1 - Mar 31)

Documentation & Compliance

  • Photo ID (driver’s license or state ID) required
  • Professional references: 2 required within last 2 years (not necessarily supervisors)
  • Resume must include at least 7 years of employment history with no gaps over 30 days, education details, and valid contact information
  • Completion of facility-specific forms including confidentiality agreement, new hire packet, and employment eligibility certification within 60 days of start
  • Missouri state-specific background checks and registrations must be completed and on file before start

Additional Notes

  • Orientation safety manual acknowledgement and competency exams as applicable
  • Medication and pharmacology competency exams may be required
  • Candidates must be able to work in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment with neurological and stroke patients
  • Rotating shifts and holiday work are mandatory parts of the role

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Missouri
  • Minimum 2 years of Neuro ICU experience, including experience within the last year
  • Stroke care experience
  • ACLS certification
  • BLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
