Job Opportunity: Oncology Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Baton Rouge, Louisiana
Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each; 18:45–7:15)
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Travel experience is required.
- Chemotherapy certification is preferred.
- No local candidates will be considered.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Louisiana.
- Minimum of 1 year of oncology nursing experience, with oncology experience within the last year.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
Certifications & Competencies
- Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam as required by specialty.
- Competency Exam as required by specialty.
Background & Screening Requirements
- Criminal background check (updated if no assignment within last 90 days).
- EPLS/GSA/SAM check required.
- HHS/OIG check required.
Health & Safety Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, updated annually, signed by a physician.
- Negative TB test (PPD, QGold, or TSPOT) within 1 year, with additional documentation if applicable; annual renewal required.
- Annual respirator fit testing including mask size (may be completed onsite).
- 12-panel drug screen within 90 days prior to start (includes amphetamines, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, cocaine, marijuana, MDMA, methadone, opiates, oxycodone, PCP, tricyclic antidepressants).
- Influenza vaccination documentation or approved medical/religious exemption form.
- COVID-19 vaccination documentation or approved medical/religious exemption form.
Additional Requirements
- Copy of valid photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID).
- Signed System Access and Confidentiality Agreement prior to start.
- Completion of Healthstream courses assigned during orientation, including glucose testing demonstration for accuchecks.
- Two professional references required.
Notes
- Required certifications may vary by cost center; verify specific requirements prior to assignment.
- Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB) and Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) certifications are not specified as required for this specialty but may be relevant in other units.
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Neonatal Resuscitation Procedure (NRP), and NIH Stroke Certification are not required for this oncology role.
This position offers a travel nursing opportunity in oncology with a focus on night shifts and requires prior travel experience and specific licensure and certifications.
