Job Summary
Seeking a Respiratory Therapist with expertise in neuro diagnostics for a travel contract position. The role involves working primarily in Adult Intensive Care and Level III or above Neonatal Intensive Care settings.
Required Education & Licensure
- Graduate of a Respiratory Therapy program recognized by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC)
- Certifications:
- RCP (Respiratory Care Practitioner)
- RRT (Registered Respiratory Therapist)
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Provider)
- BLS (Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider)
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 2 years of respiratory therapy experience in an acute care hospital
- Extensive experience in Adult Intensive Care and Level III or above Neonatal Intensive Care
Skills & Knowledge
- Strong knowledge of respiratory care responsibilities, department policies, and procedures
- Familiarity with Respiratory Care Act, Title-22 Regulations, Joint Commission guidelines, and hospital administration practices
- Understanding of patient rights and reporting mechanisms for abuse and neglect
- Excellent respiratory patient assessment skills and clinical pathway knowledge
- Thorough understanding of pharmaceuticals used in respiratory care
- Expertise in oxygen delivery methods for all patient populations
- Advanced knowledge of mechanical ventilators and respiratory therapy monitors
- Strong communication skills with patients, families, co-workers, and physicians
- Ability to assist department management with tasks such as scheduling, performance improvement, statistics, billing, and materials management
- Excellent troubleshooting skills for respiratory equipment
- Proficient in physical assessment, lab interpretation (pulmonary function studies, arterial blood gases), and environmental factors affecting respiratory care
- May participate independently in infant transport services
Shift Details
- 3 shifts per week
- 12-hour shifts (07:00 - 19:30)
- Every other weekend
Background & Compliance Requirements
- 7-year background check including SSN trace, county searches, sex offender search, education verification, and FACIS Level 3 screening
- Annual updates required for EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG, and FACIS screenings
- Drug screening: Negative 9-panel drug screen within 6 months of start (excluding marijuana/cannabinoids due to CA law)
- Physical exam within 1 year of start
- Fit mask test within 1 year, renewed annually (specific mask types required)
- Immunizations and titers required:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years)
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray (annual renewal)
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR) immunity or vaccination
- Hepatitis B series or declination
- Varicella immunity or vaccination
- Seasonal flu vaccination during flu season (Nov-April) or signed declination
- Respiratory Safety clearance required annually
- TB questionnaire within 90 days of start, renewed annually
- Employment application with full 7 years of work history, no gaps
- Unit-specific skills checklist, renewed annually
Certifications (as applicable)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Provider) - must be Instructor or Advanced Provider Course
- CCRN (Critical Care RN)
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)
- EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring)
- IV Certification (if applicable)
- CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute)
- NIH Stroke Certification
- Other certifications as required by position
