Job Opportunity: Telemetry Registered Nurse

Location: Saratoga Springs, New York
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Telemetry nursing position requiring rhythm reading skills and passing a hospital proctored test with >80% accuracy in rhythm identification and 100% accuracy on critical rhythms.
  • Patient ratio approximately 1:4-5.
  • Experience with critical drips and cerebrovascular accident (CVA) patients is a plus.
  • Must have at least 1 year current experience with telemetry patients.
  • Flu vaccine or approved exemption required.
  • Epic charting experience required.
  • Local rule: Candidates must reside outside a 50-mile radius (specific counties excluded).

Required Qualifications

  • Current New York Registered Nurse (RN) license.
  • Minimum 2 years nursing experience (highest required years of experience).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
  • Ability to read cardiac rhythms and pass a facility-specific rhythm identification test.
  • Prior travel experience is not explicitly required.

Certifications & Testing Requirements

  • Successful completion of an advanced EKG/ECG test within 72 hours of contract signing (90% passing score required; 100% on lethal rhythms). Up to 3 attempts allowed with remediation support.
  • NIH Stroke Certification (assigned if not already held).
  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam as applicable.
  • Color blindness test preferred.

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start date.
  • Negative TB test (2-step PPD or Quantiferon Gold) within 1 year; chest X-ray if prior positive PPD.
  • Proof of immunity or vaccination for:
    • Measles (Rubeola)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Varicella
    • Hepatitis B (titer, declination, or vaccine series)
  • Seasonal flu vaccine or approved medical/religious exemption (mask required if exempt).
  • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 60 days of start.
  • Eye exam including Ishihara color deficiency test.

Additional Requirements

  • Child Abuse Mandatory Reporter Training (New York State requirement for all RNs).
  • Facility-specific documents including photo for badge, lift assessment (usually 25 lbs), and various questionnaires/forms to be completed during orientation or physical.
  • Background checks including 7-year history, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG, and state-specific registry searches as applicable.

Skills

  • Telemetry nursing skills with rhythm interpretation.
  • Experience with critical drips and stroke patients preferred.
  • Epic electronic health record (EHR) experience.

  • Housing is expensive in the fall; housing resources may be available.
  • Candidates must be prepared to complete all required testing and certifications promptly upon contract signing.

Nursing staff is very welcoming and supportive. There are massage chairs that staff can use on breaks (when you can get a break)

Cons

Hospitalist providers are condescending and getting them to respond to needs and assess pts being held in ED is difficult.
