Job Opportunity: Orthopedic Tech (Surgical Services)

Location: Anaheim, California
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 8 weeks


Job Overview

  • Outpatient role focused on splinting, casting, and wound care.
  • Does not assist with surgeries.
  • Suitable for Surgical Techs with relevant experience and completed ortho tech checklist.
  • Shift: Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM (5x8).
  • First-time travelers are accepted.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in an outpatient setting with strong orthopedic specialty experience.
  • Experience with splinting, casting, and wound care.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (AHA or ARC only).
  • Flu vaccination required (no declinations or exemptions allowed).
  • Orthopedic Technologist Certification preferred.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Orthopedic Technologist Certified (OTC) from NBCOT required within 180 days of hire.

Job Duties

  • Assist physicians, nurse practitioners, or physician assistants in assessing orthopedic patients.
  • Provide patient education on care and treatment plans, including cast and splint care.
  • Apply and remove casts, splints, slings, immobilization devices, and traction.
  • Assist with fracture and dislocation reductions.
  • Inspect and adjust bandages and orthopedic equipment.
  • Assist in wound closure and removal of wound closure materials.
  • Apply first aid in emergencies.
  • Assist with aspirations and prepare injections.
  • Position, prep, and drape patients for procedures.
  • Manage post-operative dressings using aseptic techniques.
  • Fit orthopedic equipment such as walkers, crutches, and braces, and instruct patients on their use.
  • Prepare patients for provider visits by reviewing medications and recording vital signs and other relevant information.
  • Set up exam and procedure rooms according to patient needs.
  • Perform designated diagnostic tests as directed by providers.

Certifications & Compliance Requirements

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) required.
  • Flu vaccination mandatory with no exemptions.
  • Orthopedic Technologist Certification preferred (must obtain within 180 days if not already certified).
  • Background checks including criminal history and education verification required.
  • Drug testing within 1 year of start date required.
  • Fit mask test (N95 or equivalent) within 12 months required.
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year required.
  • Various health immunizations and titers required (Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella).
  • Professional references required (2 total, including 1 supervisory).

Additional Information

  • Prior travel experience is not required.
  • Candidates must comply with facility-specific policies including code of conduct, attendance, social media, and job hazard acknowledgements.
  • Photo for badge required (facility-specific standards apply).
  • Candidates must complete competency exams and medication tests as part of orientation.
