Job Summary

The NICU/Pediatrics Nurse Manager oversees daily operations, patient care quality, and staff management for the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), and Pediatrics. Responsibilities include hiring, scheduling, budgeting, policy development, and ensuring compliance while fostering a positive environment for critically ill pediatric patients and their families. The role involves close collaboration with neonatologists, pediatric specialists, and other healthcare staff.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee daily operations and patient care quality in NICU, PICU, and Pediatrics units
• Manage staff including hiring, scheduling, and discipline
• Develop and enforce policies and procedures
• Ensure compliance with collective bargaining agreements and labor relations
• Use independent judgment to address staffing issues and perform personnel actions (hire, transfer, suspend, promote, discharge, etc.)
• Participate in collective bargaining negotiations and labor relations discussions

Minimum Qualifications

• Licensed Registered Professional Nurse (RN) in Illinois
• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
• 5 years of nursing experience in Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)
• 2 years of nursing supervision experience or charge nurse experience
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
• Current Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification or ability to obtain within 60 days of hire

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s Degree in Nursing
• Bilingual skills

Certifications Required

• Basic Life Support (BLS) - AHA only
• Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) - AHA only
• Additional certifications may be required depending on unit assignment (e.g., ACLS, PALS)

Health and Compliance Requirements

• Physical exam within 12 months, updated annually
• Fit mask test (N95 or equivalent) within 1 year, updated annually
• Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine within 10 years or signed declination
• Negative TB test (QGold or TSPOT) within 12 months, updated annually
• Immunizations or titers for Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, and Hepatitis B
• Negative 9-panel drug screen within 90 days of start, updated annually
• Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption during flu season (Oct-Apr)

Additional Requirements

• Background checks covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years
• Compliance with facility-specific forms and documentation
• Medication and competency exams as required by the facility
• No prior travel experience explicitly required for this role

Summary

This is a leadership role for an experienced NICU nurse with supervisory skills, responsible for managing critical pediatric care units in a large healthcare system. The position requires strong clinical expertise, management experience, and compliance with rigorous health and certification standards.
