Job Opportunity: Behavioral Health Registered Nurse (RN)

Location: Saint Louis, Missouri
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Details

• Shift: 3x12 hour night shifts
• Patient Ratios: 1:6
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
• Floating: Within service line and to all Behavioral Health units
• Block Schedule: Not accommodated
• Locals Accepted: No (must be outside 75-mile radius)
• Pending License Accepted: Yes
• On-call: No
• Guaranteed Hours: 3 shifts per 13 weeks (cancelled shifts must be full shift length)
• RTO Restrictions: No more than 7 days off

Patient Population & Unit Description

• Adult psychiatric and geriatric patients (18 years or older)
• Patients may have co-morbid medical conditions requiring a med-surg approach
• Diagnoses include dementia, depression, Parkinson's Disease, bipolar disorder, anxiety
• Some patients require pre-op preparation for Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT)
• Locked unit environment with substance use/chemical dependency cases

Required Skills & Experience

• Minimum Years of Experience: 1 year in specialty (Behavioral Health Nursing)
• First-time travelers accepted (manager open to interviewing first-timers)
• Experience with:

  • Geriatric and inpatient psychiatric care
  • Locked unit protocols
  • Medical/Psych nursing
  • Substance use/chemical dependency
  • Medication administration (PO, rectal, IM, IV, SC, etc.)
  • Starting and maintaining IVs
  • Blood glucose monitoring
  • Foley catheter insertion and maintenance
  • Epic electronic health record system
  • Medical and psychiatric nursing experience
• Ability to work as charge nurse as needed
• Skills in restraint application and presence in milieu
• Ability to float to other Behavioral Health units with similar patient populations

Required Certifications

• BLS (Basic Life Support)
• CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) Blue Card (or MAB if applicable)
• Epic experience required
• Additional certifications may be required based on unit (e.g., ACLS not required for Behavioral Health)

Licensure

• Must hold a valid Registered Nurse (RN) license for Missouri
• Pending licenses accepted

Compliance & Background Requirements

• Government-issued ID required
• Criminal background check within 6 months, including statewide and nationwide searches
• Quarterly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks
• Education verification of highest nursing degree
• Drug testing within 1 year of start, including a comprehensive panel
• Physical exam within 1 year of start
• Fit mask testing (N95) required and must be renewed annually
• Immunizations and health screenings required:

  • Tdap vaccine or declination
  • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within required timeframes
  • Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella immunity or vaccination/declination as applicable
  • Flu vaccination or approved exemption during flu season
• Facility-specific documents including HIPAA acknowledgement, confidentiality form, hand hygiene, dress code, and orientation modules must be completed prior to start

Additional Information

• No on-call required
• Floating within Behavioral Health service line only
• No block scheduling available
• Must be willing to work every other weekend
• First-time travelers are welcome and manager is open to interviewing them
• Must be able to meet facility policies including dress code, hand hygiene, and fingernail policies

This position offers the opportunity to work in a Magnet & Teaching Hospital with a Level I Trauma Center designation, serving a diverse adult psychiatric and geriatric population in a locked inpatient setting.
