- Must take Charge Role as needed
- Average patient ratio: 1:5
- Weekend requirement: Every other weekend
- Floating within scope to meet facility needs: Yes
- Pending license accepted but must be active prior to start date
- Return to Office (RTO) restrictions: RTO greater than 7 days requires approval
- Guaranteed hours: Yes
- First-time travelers not accepted
Required Experience
- Minimum 2 years of experience as a Registered Nurse in the specialty
Required Certifications
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA or ARC only
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA or ARC only
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) - AHA or ARC only (Not required for Pediatric Stepdown)
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Procedure) - Required for NICU
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) - Required for ER; preferred for Pediatric ER
- NIH Stroke Certification - Required for all RNs except Behavioral Health, Case Management, Home Health, OR (including CVOR and RNFA), all Pediatric units/specialties, NICU, Labor and Delivery
- CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) - Required for Psychiatry/Behavioral Health; preferred for ER RNs
Required Competencies
- Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (must score 85%)
- Color Blind Testing (required for all candidates on/after 8/2/2024; must score 80%)
- Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam (required for Telemetry, MS/Tele, ER, all ICU units, Progressive Care, PACU, IR/Cath/EPEndo/GI; not required for NICU and Behavioral Health)
License Requirements
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license for Connecticut
- Primary source verification required within 30 days of start
Background Checks & Verifications
- 7-year criminal background check required within 12 months prior to start; must include SSN trace, counties lived/worked, statewide, national sex offender, national criminal, federal extended
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start
- Education verification required; foreign equivalency report and diploma required for internationally educated RNs
- Transcript or official education verification required if third-party verification unavailable
- Sex offender search required
Health & Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 12 months of start
- Fit test within 12 months of start; must be updated annually (3M N95 preferred)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray documentation
- TB questionnaire updated annually
- Immunizations or proof of immunity required for:
- Rubeola (Measles)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B (positive titer, vaccine series, or declination within 1 year)
- Varicella (positive titer, vaccines, or physician documented history)
- Tdap vaccination highly preferred for Pediatric specialties, Labor and Delivery, and Postpartum (declination acceptable)
- 10-panel drug screen within 12 months of start
- Seasonal flu vaccination or medical/religious exemption required during flu season (9/1 - 3/31); declinations not allowed
- COVID vaccination series preferred

- Patient Bedside Rounding Module (except OR, Behavioral Health, Ambulatory, ER/ED)
- Ventricular Assist Device Awareness (except certain hospitals)
- AME Blood Administration Module (except Case Managers, Behavioral Health/Psych, Home Health)
- New Employee Orientation Module
- 21st Century Cures Act Module (required for RN except Home Health)
- ED Handbook (for ED/ER RNs only)
- eCart Training Module (except Pediatric, Periop/OR, Outpatient, Case Managers, Home Health)
- Chaperone Policy Training
- EPIC Testing (optional but highly encouraged for RNs with EPIC experience)
- Vaccination Booster Medical Exemption (if applicable)
Employment History & Compliance
- 7-year work history with no gaps greater than 90 days required
- Verification of last 7 years of employment required for all start dates on/after 8/2/2024
- Skills checklist required within 12 months of start
- Attestation of prior radiation exposure required for certain units
Additional Notes
- Prior travel experience is NOT required for this position
- Floating within scope is expected to meet facility needs
- Weekend work every other weekend is required
- Charge nurse role may be required as needed
