Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (Step Down Unit)

Location: Utica, New York
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Unit & Patient Care

• Unit: Intermediate Care Unit (IMCU), 5th Floor
• Nurse-to-patient ratio: Typically 4:1 depending on acuity; may be 5:1 if acuity is low
• Care includes post-procedural patients and stroke patients

Required Qualifications & Experience

• License: Valid New York RN license
• Specialty Experience: Minimum 2 years of nursing experience
• Clinical Skills:

  • Drip experience including Neo up to 100, Precedex, Insulin (IMCU level)
  • Experience with arterial lines (A lines), TR bands
  • Stroke care experience
  • Post-procedural care experience
• Certifications:

  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • NIH Stroke Certification
• Electronic Medical Record: Epic experience required

Additional Requirements

• Return to Office (RTO) within 7 days or less; only 1 holiday allowed during contract
• Prior travel experience is not explicitly required

Required Documentation & Compliance

• Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License/State ID)
• Background checks including 7-year search, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG
• Education verification
• Harassment Prevention Training (New York specific)
• Medication/Pharmacology competency exam (minimum 80% score)
• Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam (required for ICU, PCU, ER, CT ICU, and 7th Floor M/S Unit staff)
• Color Blind Testing (one-time)
• Physical exam within 1 year of start
• Fit mask test within 1 year and updated annually (specific mask types required)
• Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year (with specific documentation requirements)
• Immunizations or proof of immunity:

  • Rubeola (Measles)
  • Mumps
  • Rubella
  • Hepatitis B (titer, declination, or vaccine series)
  • Varicella (chickenpox)
• Drug screening: 9-panel drug screen within 1 year of start
• Seasonal flu vaccination or declination (required during flu season)
• Pneumonia vaccination or declination

References & Skills

• 2 professional references required for travel, allied, or per diem acute care roles (within 3 years)
• Annual skills checklist required

This position is ideal for experienced RNs with IMCU, stroke, and post-procedural care skills who are comfortable working in a fast-paced step-down unit with Epic EMR proficiency.
