Job Opportunity: OR Tech - Surgical Services
Location: Springfield, Illinois
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Details
- Specialty: Surgical Services (OR Tech)
- Shift: 5 days per week, 8-hour shifts (12:45 PM - 9:15 PM)
- Average Daily Census: 50-60 cases per day
- Experience Required: Minimum 3 years of OR Tech experience
- First-timers: Not accepted
- Weekend Requirement: Yes, approximately once a month (16 hours total)
- On-call Requirement: Yes, as needed for the department
- Floating: May float within scope of practice to meet facility needs
- Block Scheduling: Possible, discuss with manager
- Locals: Not accepted (must live more than 50 miles from facility)
- Licensing: No license required for this role
Certifications Required
- BLS (Basic Life Support) required
- CST (Certified Surgical Technologist) preferred

General Surgery:

- Mastectomy
- Thyroidectomy (partial/total)
Gynecology:
- Abdominal hysterectomy
- Anterior/posterior repair
- Bilateral tubal ligation
- Dilation & Curettage
- Laparoscopic assisted gynecological procedures
- Vaginal hysterectomy
Neurosurgery:
- Craniotomy
- Laminectomy/discectomy
- Lumbar fusion
Oral Surgery:
- Repair of fractured jaws (mandibular and zygomatic)
Orthopedic Surgery:

Plastic Surgery:
- Free flap - microvascular
Trauma:
- Amputations

Emergency Management:
- Fire safety

Additional Requirements
- Must be in Illinois 3 business days prior to start for fingerprinting
- Background checks and various state-specific screenings required within 30 days of start
- Physical exam required within 1 year of start
- Fit mask test required (specific mask types accepted)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
- Drug screening (9 panel) within 30 days of start
- Flu vaccination or approved exemption required annually
- References and skills checklist required for clinical candidates
- Badge photo required before start
- All time off must be approved by manager
Notes
- Candidate must discuss Return to Office (RTO) and time off with manager
- Client may call off up to 36 hours per 13-week assignment without pay obligation
- On-call shifts count as called-off shifts if replacing scheduled shifts
This position is ideal for experienced OR Techs with strong surgical skills across multiple specialties, comfortable working in a high-volume Level I trauma teaching hospital setting, and able to meet strict compliance and credentialing requirements.
