Surgical Technologist Travel/Contract Position

Location: Madison, Wisconsin
Facility: University Hospital (Magnet®-designated, Wisconsin’s #1 hospital)
Specialty: Surgical Services
Contract Length: Approximately 17 weeks


Job Description

  • Contract duration: 17 to 26 weeks
  • Shift: Nights, 12-hour shifts (1830 - 0700), Monday to Friday with variable days
  • No on-call required
  • Floating: May be assigned to multiple units or locations based on staffing needs
  • Primary work site requires traveler’s permanent address to be within 50 miles

Experience & Education Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years scrub experience or equivalent relevant experience
  • Completion of a surgical technologist program OR 2 years experience in Surgical Technologist role may be considered in lieu of formal education

Licensure & Certifications

  • BLS certification required (American Heart Association only)
  • ACLS, PALS, NRP certifications may be required depending on unit (American Heart Association)
  • National certification preferred but not required for Surgical Tech
  • State license verification and other certifications as applicable

Role & Responsibilities

  • Prepare the Operating Room prior to surgery
  • Promote patient safety during surgery
  • Assist the surgeon during surgery
  • Care for the patient and surgical instruments during surgery
  • Provide care for patients of all age groups (neonate to geriatric)

Facility & Compliance Requirements

  • Background check within 90 days prior to start, including multi-location search for past 7 years
  • Monthly monitoring for EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG
  • Education verification required for Surgical Tech (program completion or equivalent experience)
  • Wisconsin Caregiver Screening and BID form required prior to start
  • Drug screening required per Vaya standard (clinical candidates)
  • Physical exam and immunization documentation (including TB, MMR, Varicella, Hepatitis B, Flu vaccine or approved exemptions)
  • Facility-specific forms including communicable disease, flu exemption, and vaccine waivers as applicable
  • Photo for badge must meet specific guidelines (passport-style, no selfies or headwear except for religious/medical reasons)
  • Telemetry testing required for applicable units (Pediatric and Adult Telemetry exams with remediation process if needed)

  • Parking permit required if parking onsite; alternative transportation options available
  • Facility is a leading teaching institution and referral center
  • Strict education and background verification policies in place
  • Candidates must comply with all facility-specific health and safety documentation and testing requirements
