Registered Nurse (Medical Surgical / Ortho) - Roanoke, Virginia

Position Details

• Specialty: Registered Nurse (Med/Surg / Ortho)

• Employment Type: Travel/Contract
• Contract Length: 13 weeks

Schedule

• Standard: 3 shifts of 12 hours (days, 6:45 AM - 7:15 PM)
• 4x12 shifts available by request
• Weekend requirement: Every other weekend or 6 weekend shifts in a 6-week block
• Must work one holiday per 13-week contract
• Facility may call off 1 shift per 2 weeks
• All requests for time off, block, or special scheduling must be submitted upfront
• Locals accepted within radius rules

Required Licenses & Certifications

• Active Virginia State or Compact RN/LPN license required (pending license accepted only if single-state non-compact)
• BLS certification required
• ACLS, PALS, NRP, TNCC certifications may be required depending on unit
• State license primary source verification within 30 days of start
• NURSYS verification required for all RNs within 30 days of start

Clinical Skills & Experience

• Proficient in medical-surgical nursing with experience responding to Rapid Response/Code teams
• Skilled in peripheral line care/management, nasal cannula, non-invasive airway management, oxygen administration, and isolation precautions
• Charge nurse and precepting experience preferred

Unit & Patient Population

• Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:6 (may flex to 1:7)
• Patient population includes:

  • Scheduled orthopedic surgeries (hip, knee, shoulder, ankle, spine, fracture repairs)
  • Bone and other infections with surgeries
  • Other surgeries (cholecystectomy, appendectomy, colon, thyroid, hysterectomy, mastectomy, prostatectomy with continuous bladder irrigation)
  • Acute renal failure/dialysis, diabetic management
• Floating within skillset required

Charting & Systems

• EPIC experience required

Required Documentation & Compliance

• I9 or attestation
• Driver’s License/State ID within 48 hours of signing (must meet radius criteria)
• E-Verify or attestation
• Background check (7 years, all locations lived/worked in past 7 years)
• EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start and updated for renewals
• Education verification of highest earned degree
• Physical exam within 1 year, free from communicable diseases
• Fit test within 1 year, updated annually (not required for students)
• Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year, updated annually
• Required immunizations or titers: Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella
• Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start
• Flu vaccination or mask/declination form during flu season
• References: 2 clinical references required
• Employment application/resume required
• Skills checklist updated annually
• Photo for badge (professional, plain background, no selfies or filters)
• Orientation Safety Manual acknowledgment (HIPAA compliance)
