Job Opportunity: Surgical Services - Travel/Contract

Location: Manchester, New Hampshire
Specialty: Surgical Services (Hospital-based Endoscopy Department)
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Requirements

  • Licensure: Must have New Hampshire (NH) license in hand to submit; no pending NH licenses accepted.
  • Experience: Minimum 1 year required.
  • Traveler Experience: First-time travelers accepted.
  • Skills Required:
    • Inpatient, Community Hospital
    • Sterilization, Decontamination, Assembly/Wrap
    • Case Cart, Circulate
    • Scope/Probe Reprocessing (Colonoscopes, EGD Scopes, Endoscopic Ultrasound Scopes, Enteroscopes, ERCP Scopes, Fiber Optics, Flex Sigmoidoscopes)
    • Equipment Documentation
    • High-Level Disinfection (HLD)
    • Aseptic Technique
    • Endo/Laparoscopic procedures
  • Certifications Required: BLS (AHA provider only)
  • Preferred Skills/Certifications: Crash Cart, Bariatrics, EPIC, CBSPD

Job Details

  • Daily Average Surgical Case Volume: 25
  • Number of Rooms: 3
  • Shift: 4x10 hour shifts, varied start times between 08:30 - 18:30
  • Call Requirement: One weekday and every 4th weekend
  • Float Requirement: None
  • Department: Hospital-based endoscopy department performing EGD, colonoscopy, EGD BRAVO, EUS, ERCP. Scopes processed by techs on the unit.

Orientation & Uniform

  • Orientation: 40 hours
  • Scrubs: Provided

  • Travelers who have ever been employed by any facility associated with this health system are not considered, regardless of length or time since employment.

Background & Compliance Requirements

  • Background Check: Required within 30 days of start, including:
    • Social Security Verification
    • National Sex Offender Registry
    • National Criminal Search
    • FACIS L3
    • Education Verification
    • Criminal county/state searches (excluding NH counties; NH State Police Search required instead)
    • BEAS (Bureau of Elderly and Adult Services) Background Report for NH placements
    • Motor Vehicle Background Check (if applicable)
  • Drug Testing: 10-panel drug screen within 14 days prior to start (includes amphetamines, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, cocaine, fentanyl, methadone, opiates, PCP, propoxyphene)
  • Additional Checks: EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG, Transcript/Diploma (if education verification pending)
  • References: Two current professional references within last 3 years, including one supervisor or charge RN
  • Employment Application & Skills Checklist: Required
  • Competency Exams: Medication/Pharmacology, Dysrhythmia/EKG (time sensitive for certain units), and general competency exams required
  • Pass/Fail Testing: Required for awareness and certain units (e.g., Basic Dysrhythmia HealthStream Exam onsite with passing score of 80%)

Certifications & Licenses

  • BLS: AHA provider only (instructor and RQI cards accepted if AHA provider)
  • ACLS, PALS, TNCC, CPI, MAB, NIH Stroke Certification: Preferred or required depending on unit
  • State License: Copy and verification required; NH Med Tech License required if no NH board license held
  • Tech Certification: Verification and copy required if applicable
  • Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement: Required (OSHA education documentation)
  • Acknowledgement of Pass/Fail Testing: Required for specific units

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Physical Exam: Within 1 year prior to start
  • Fit Mask Test: Annual test required for clinical candidates (N95 or equivalent masks)
  • Vaccinations:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within last 10 years; titers not accepted)
    • Flu Vaccine (required Oct 31 - Apr 1; exemptions allowed with documentation)
    • Negative TB or Chest X-Ray (True 2-Step PPD, Qgold, or Tspot within 1 year)
    • TB Questionnaire (required for all travelers)
    • Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella: Immune titer or 2 vaccines at least 28 days apart; no religious exemptions allowed
    • Hepatitis B: Immune titer or 3 vaccines; declinations accepted with waiver
    • Varicella: Immune titer or 2 vaccines; history of disease not accepted
  • Drug Screen: 10-panel within 14 days prior to start (see details above)
  • RespSafety Clearance: Required for all clinical travelers (virtual questionnaire reviewed by licensed healthcare professional)

Facility Specific Documents

  • Passport-style photo (jpeg) for badge
  • Proof of auto insurance (if applicable)
  • Compliance attestation required upon clearance
  • Immunization waiver forms for religious or medical exemptions (flu, Hep B, Tdap)
  • Hep B waiver required if declining vaccine

Additional Notes

  • Candidates must complete SSA release and NH Statewide release for background verification.
  • MA CORI required if lived/worked in Massachusetts in last 7 years.
  • Background checks and drug screens must be current and complete prior to start; no pending results accepted except specific NH county searches.
  • Flu vaccination or approved exemption must be on file prior to start if starting after October 1.
  • Fit mask test failure requires CAPR training onsite or approval for onsite testing.
