Location: New Haven, Connecticut

Job Description

  • Position: RN Adolescent Psychiatry (PM shift)
  • May float to Behavioral Health units at both campuses within scope
  • Average Patient Ratios:
    • Days: 1:8
    • Nights: 1:12
    • Weekends: 1:8
  • Call: Not required
  • Float: Yes
  • Every Other Week (EOW) coverage
  • BLS and CPI certifications required
  • Previous charge experience preferred but not required
  • Minimum 2 years of nursing experience required
  • First-time travelers accepted

Required Experience

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse (Psychiatry/Behavioral Health)
  • Minimum 2 years of nursing experience required
  • Prior travel experience: Not required (first-time travelers accepted)

Certifications Required

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA or ARC only
  • CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) - Required for Psychiatry/Behavioral Health
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - Check unit requirements
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) - Check unit requirements (not required for Pediatric Stepdown)
  • Other certifications may be required depending on unit (e.g., TNCC, NRP, CHEMO)

Background Checks & Verifications

  • 7-year criminal background check required within 12 months of start, updated annually
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start
  • Education verification required (including foreign equivalency for internationally educated RNs)
  • State license primary source verification within 30 days of start
  • NURSYS verification within 30 days of start
  • Employment history verification for last 7 years with no gaps greater than 90 days

Competency Requirements

  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (must score 85%) within 12 months of start
  • Color Blind Testing (required for all candidates on/after 8/2/2024, must score 80%)
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam (required for certain units)

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 12 months of start
  • Fit mask test within 12 months of start, updated annually (3M N95 preferred)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray documentation
  • Annual TB questionnaire
  • Required vaccinations or proof of immunity:
    • Rubeola (Measles)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Hepatitis B (or declination within 1 year)
    • Varicella
  • Tdap vaccination highly preferred for Pediatric specialties, Labor & Delivery, Postpartum (declination accepted)
  • 10-panel drug screen within 12 months of start
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or medical/religious exemption required during flu season (9/1 - 3/31)
  • COVID vaccination preferred

    • Baxter Pump Interoperability
    • Patient Bedside Rounding (except certain units)
    • Ventricular Assist Device Awareness
    • Blood Administration Module (annual update required)
    • New Employee Orientation
    • 21st Century Cures Act Module (required for RN except Home Health)
    • ED Handbook (for ED/ER RNs only)
    • eCart Training Module (not required for Pediatric, Periop/OR, Outpatient, Case Managers, Home Health)
    • Chaperone Policy Training (required with conditions)

Additional Notes

  • Must provide a 7-year work history with no gaps greater than 90 days
  • Prior charge experience preferred but not mandatory
  • Float assignments may include Behavioral Health units at multiple campuses
  • Epic charting experience encouraged; EPIC testing available but optional before orientation
