Registered Nurse - Cardiovascular Telemetry Unit
Location: Kalamazoo, Michigan
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Unit: Cardiovascular Unit - Telemetry
- Shift: 3x12 hour night shifts (1900-0730)
- Patient Ratio: Typically 1:5-6; can increase to 1:7 during call-ins
- Bed Count: 54 beds
- Patient Population:
- Cardiac patients on telemetry monitors
- Conditions include heart failure, STEMI/NSTEMI, stroke requiring cardiac monitoring, arrhythmias, chest pain
- May also take overflow medical patients
- Call Requirements: None
- Weekend Requirements: Every other weekend
- Holiday Requirements: Must work 2 out of 3 holidays
- Block Scheduling: Not guaranteed but managers try to accommodate
- Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week
- Locals: Not accepted; must live at least 50 miles away
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Michigan
- Minimum 1 year of telemetry nursing experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- NIHSS (NIH Stroke Scale Certification)
Additional Information
- Charting System: Cerner Powerchart
- Scrub Color: Royal Blue
- Patient Monitoring: Patients are monitored remotely and on the unit; cardiac drips are administered
- Background Checks: Required within 90 days of start, covering last 7 years of residence and employment
- Health Requirements:
- Physical exam
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
- Required immunizations or titers for Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella
- Negative 12-panel drug screen within 30 days of start
- Flu vaccine or approved medical/religious exemption required prior to start
- COVID-19: Medical and religious exemptions available with proper documentation
- Onboarding Modules: Approximately 8-10 hours of online modules required before start date
- Employment Application: Required prior to start
Notes
- Prior travel experience is not required for this position.
- The unit is actively onboarding new travelers weekly to help manage workload.
- Candidates must be comfortable with the patient ratios and night shift schedule.
