Job Opportunity: PICC Registered Nurse

Location: Oakland, California
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Work Schedule: Day shift (7:00 AM - 3:00 PM) or Evening shift (1:00 PM - 9:00 PM), 5 days a week, 8 hours per day (40 hours/week)
  • Variable 8-hour shifts
  • Ability to float to other facilities within the system is required
  • Pediatric vascular access experience required, including ultrasound-guided peripheral IV placement

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in California
  • Minimum of 1 year of PICC experience, including experience within the last year
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Experience with vascular access, specifically in a pediatric hospital setting

Preferred Qualifications

  • Inpatient nursing experience
  • Emergency Department (ED) experience

Certifications & Competencies

  • Must have original AHA BLS card at orientation and while working
  • Pass/Fail Telemetry exam required on first day for applicable units
  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam with a passing score of 80% or higher, completed within one year prior to start
  • Unit-specific competency exam with a passing score of 80% or higher, completed within 12 months prior to start
  • Core clinical training modules (Parts I, II, III) with passing scores of 80% or higher, completed within one year prior to start and updated annually
  • Acknowledgement of Pass/Fail Testing required for all RNs

Background & Verification Requirements

  • 7-year criminal background check including specific counties and nationwide searches, completed within 30 days of start and renewed annually
  • Education verification or copy of diploma/transcript acceptable
  • Primary source license verification within 30 days of start
  • NURSYS verification required for RN license within 30 days of start
  • Two supervisory references required, preferably from the most recent employment
  • Current and updated resume covering the last 7 years of work history with explanations for gaps of 30 days or more
  • Unit-specific skills checklist updated annually

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start, including physician statement of fitness to work
  • Fit mask test within 1 year of start (specific approved mask models required), updated annually
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine within 10 years (declinations not accepted unless medically exempt)
  • Two negative TB tests required: one within 1 year and one within 3 months of start (PPD, QuantiFERON, or Tspot)
  • Annual TB questionnaire within 30 days of start
  • Immunity or vaccination documentation required for:
    • Rubeola (Measles)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Hepatitis B (titer, series, or declination)
    • Varicella (chickenpox)
  • Standard 9-panel drug test (excluding THC) within 30 days of start, re-run every 2 years
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or facility-specific declination required during flu season (Nov 1 - Apr 30)
  • COVID-19 vaccination strongly recommended but not required as of current policy

Facility-Specific Requirements

  • Completion of facility-specific learning modules prior to or during the first week of assignment
  • Review and initial facility policies including COVID-19 preparedness, parking, uniform guidelines, and cybersecurity awareness training
  • Completion of emergency contact information form
  • Pass/Fail Telemetry exam and medication test quick tips provided prior to start for preparation
  • Compliance with facility’s background and health screening protocols

Additional Notes

  • Prior travel experience is not explicitly required for this position
  • Candidates must be prepared for a thorough credentialing and onboarding process including multiple verifications and compliance with facility-specific policies
  • Floating to other facilities within the system is expected
