Job Details

  • Employment Type: Travel/Contract
  • Shift: Nights, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
  • Weekly Hours: 36
  • Contract Length: 13 weeks
  • Units: 12-bed ICU and 31-bed Med-Surg unit; staff work both units
  • Floating: Required to float to other units as needed, only to units where qualified and competent
  • Patient Population: Adults (18+ years)
  • Patient Diagnoses: Ventilator weaning, wound care, spinal cord injury, tracheostomy, PEG tubes
  • Medication System: Omnicell
  • Electronic Health Record: Must have at least 1 year of EPIC experience

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in South Carolina
  • Minimum 1 year of Long Term Acute Care (LTAC) nursing experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • ACLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • BLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • Experience with Epic electronic health record system

Orientation and Training

  • Online modules must be completed within 72 hours of assignment; required before starting onsite
  • Pass/Fail Testing (Medication and Arrhythmia exams) required for all RN candidates except prebook or non-clinical; two attempts allowed, 84% passing score
  • Annual competencies and training including Core Parts I, II, and III covering universal precautions, cultural diversity, pain management, harassment, fire safety, ergonomics, patient rights, OSHA blood-borne pathogens, and TJC National Patient Safety Goals

Compliance and Documentation Requirements

  • Background Check: 7-year history within 12 months of start; includes SS trace, alias searches, county/state checks for all places lived/worked in last 7 years; federal searches if applicable
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and every 30 days thereafter
  • Education Verification: Highest level of education verified; diplomas not accepted as placeholders
  • Physical Exam: Physician statement within 1 year attesting ability to meet physical demands; required if gap of 30+ days between contracts
  • Drug Screening: 5-panel drug screen within 1 year, updated annually
  • Immunizations and Health Documents:
    • Negative TB test (True 2-step PPD, Quantiferon Gold, or Tspot) within 90 days of start
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine within 10 years if working in high-risk areas
    • Flu vaccine or approved exemption required annually (not required for remote workers)
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines; second vaccine pending allowed within 28 days
    • Hepatitis B: Vaccination series, positive titer, or signed declination
  • Respirator Fit Test: Completed onsite during orientation (N95 masks commonly used)
  • Badge Photo: Passport-style photo with specific background and lighting requirements

Additional Requirements

  • Floating Policy: Must be signed; applies to clinical staff only
  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam: Required annually with full score breakdown
  • Color Blind Testing: Required for nurses assigned to Emergency Department and Pediatric ER
  • Pass/Fail Testing: Medication and Arrhythmia exams required; testing completed prior to orientation
  • HIPAA and Safety Training: Annual acknowledgment and training required
  • Internal Evaluations and Performance Reviews: Required if employed over 1 year with the agency; must be updated annually
