Job Opportunity: Hospice Registered Nurse
Location: Charlotte, North Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
- Outpatient hospice admission nurse role involving both field and hospital settings.
- Responsible for initial clinical assessments, patient/family education, and coordinating care plans with hospice medical providers.
- Must be flexible to travel between multiple locations as assigned, in various weather and road conditions.
- Shift: 4 days per week, 10-hour day shifts (08:00 - 18:30), totaling 40 hours/week.
- Float requirement between hospital and field; no call or weekend requirements.
- Patient load: 2-3 admissions per day depending on schedule.
- Orientation: Approximately 80 hours (2-3 weeks), requiring fundamental hospice experience.
- Scrubs: Navy color, not provided.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in North Carolina.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
- Minimum 3 years of hospice nursing experience, including hospice experience within the last year.
- Experience in Home Care and Home Health settings.
- Proficient with Epic Electronic Health Record system.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with inpatient hospice.
- Strong understanding of hospice admission LCD criteria.
- Experience with Epic Dorothy/Comfort system preferred.
- Cultural awareness related to end-of-life care.
Clinical Responsibilities
- Complete initial clinical assessments including head-to-toe evaluations, patient and family interviews, and medical history reviews.
- Present clinical summaries to Hospice Medical Director.
- Initiate and coordinate plans of care and associated orders with hospice attending providers.
- Facilitate discharge planning for hospitalized patients admitted for acute care.
- Maintain clear, concise, and timely clinical documentation related to hospice admissions and assessments.
Equipment & Systems
- Must have reliable transportation and be willing to travel between locations.
- Electronic Health Record systems used: EPIC, SBAR.
Compliance & Onboarding Requirements
- Background checks including local, federal, and national databases required within 90 days of start.
- Education verification for highest degree earned specific to nursing profession.
- Physical exam within 1 year of start; if past positive TB, additional documentation required.
- Fit testing for N95 mask or completion of PAPR training required.
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start.
- Immunizations and titers required: Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B (or facility-specific declination), and seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption.
- TB testing: PPD, Qgold, or Tspot within 1 year of start; additional chest x-ray and physician clearance if positive.
- Completion of facility-specific education modules including medication safety, annual compliance training, and orientation checklists.
- Candidate must complete a confidentiality agreement and other facility-required documentation prior to start.
- Photo for badge required (passport style, white background, business attire).

- No call-offs or additional time off (RTO) allowed after booking; violations may result in cancellation.
- Interview with hiring manager required prior to offer.
- References: 2 professional references within 3 years required for travel nursing.
- Orientation and onboarding may require up to 3 weeks; candidates must have fundamental hospice experience before starting.
