ICU Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position
Location: Fishers, Indiana
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
- Critical Care Float Nurse position requiring floating between ICU, Progressive Care Unit (PCU), Medical-Surgical (MS), and Emergency Department (ED) as needed.
- Schedule: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 AM – 7:30 PM).
- Patient population includes ARDS, COPD, STEMI, NSTEMI, DKA, AKI, UTI, Acute Shock, and procedures such as Cath Lab, TR Bands, Sheath Pulls, EEGs, Cardioversion, and Stress Tests.
- Must be able to manage higher patient ratios.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Indiana.
- Minimum of 1 year of ICU (Intensive Care Unit) experience within the last year.
- Completion of at least one travel nursing assignment.
- Current ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association.
- Current BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association.
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
Work Hours & Shifts
- 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (36 hours total).
- Guaranteed hours vary depending on shift pattern (36-48 hours/week possible).
Facility & Unit Information
- Short-term acute care facility with multiple staffed beds.
- Charting system: Cerner.
- Free parking available.
- Scrub color: Red top, black bottoms.
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Valid Driver’s License or Passport (clear copy required).
- Background checks including 7-year work/living history, criminal, sex offender, FACIS Level III, education verification, and international search if applicable.
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start.
- Official transcript or diploma required (may be pending at start if needed).
- State license verification within 30 days of start.
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam and unit competency exam required.
- Color blindness testing (Ishihara or equivalent) with 100% minimum score.
- Physical exam within 12 months of start.
- Fit mask test within 12 months with approved respirators (3M N95 models or Honeywell N95).
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 12 months (including amphetamines, marijuana, cocaine, opiates, PCP).
- Immunizations and titers required:
- Rubeola (Measles): Positive titer or 2 vaccines (no declinations).
- Mumps: Positive titer or 2 vaccines (no declinations).
- Rubella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines (no declinations).
- Varicella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines (no declinations or history accepted).
- Hepatitis B: Series, titer, or signed declination required.
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap: Strongly recommended but not required.
- Tuberculosis screening within 1 year (PPD, QuantiFERON-TB Gold, or T-SPOT) with chest x-ray if positive.
- Annual TB questionnaire required.
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required for flu season (9/30 - 3/31). Declinations not accepted.
- HIPAA and facility-specific compliance forms must be completed prior to start.
- Minimum of 2 professional references from recent employment with appropriate supervisory titles.
- Current employment application with full work history and explanations for gaps over 30 days.
- Skills checklist completed within 12 months and annually.
Additional Notes
- Locals are not accepted for this travel position.
- Perioperative, Allied, and Ambulatory RN travelers are exempt from certain in-state RN restrictions effective 11/30/24, but this ICU role is not exempt.
- Must be prepared to float as a resource traveler across multiple units including ICU, PCU, MS, and ED.
- Must be able to handle critical care equipment and procedures.
This position is ideal for experienced ICU RNs with prior travel contract experience who are flexible and able to float across critical care and related units.
