GI Lab Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Job - Bend, Oregon


Job Overview

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse (GI Lab)
  • Location: Bend, Oregon
  • Employment Type: Travel/Contract
  • Contract Length: 13 weeks
  • Shift: Day shift, 4 days per week, 10-hour shifts (8:00 AM - 7:00 PM)
  • No call requirements, no weekends, closed on holidays
  • Patient Population: Adult outpatients and inpatients (no pediatrics)
  • Float: May float to PACU within scope to meet facility needs
  • Local candidates not accepted within 75-mile radius (proof of address required)
  • Pending state license accepted on a case-by-case basis
  • Return to Office (RTO) restrictions: 7 total days allowed during assignment

Job Description

  • Work in Endoscopy department specializing in general and advanced GI procedures:
    • EGD, Colonoscopy, EUS, ERCP
    • Transesophageal echocardiograms
    • Synchronized cardioversions
  • Responsibilities include preoperative, recovery, and circulating cases
  • Patient ratios typically 1:2 or 1:3 depending on experience
  • Special equipment used includes:
    • Fluoroscopy, Olympus processors and endoscopes, Zoll defibrillators, Erbe cautery, Neptune suction units, Glidescopes, Exalt single-use duodenoscopes, Spyglass (Boston Scientific), Lithotripsy EHL, Anesthesia machines, GE monitors
  • Top procedures:
    • EGD (including with PEG placement and EUS)
    • ERCP
    • Colonoscopy
    • Transesophageal echocardiogram
    • Synchronized cardioversion
    • Bronchoscopy and associated procedures (not required for traveling RN)

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Oregon
  • Minimum 2 years of endoscopy nursing experience, with experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Experience with Epic electronic medical record system

Background and Compliance Requirements

  • 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start, updated annually, including:
    • SSN trace, counties lived/worked/school, FACIS L3, DOJ sex offender search, nationwide check, education verification (highest level)
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 90 days of start
  • Diploma or transcript required and must be on file
  • Photo for badge (passport-style, solid background) required within 48 hours of signing and no later than 2 Wednesdays prior to start
  • Completion of facility-specific confidentiality, access, compliance, privacy, and emergency contact forms required within 48 hours of signing and no later than 2 Wednesdays prior to start

Health and Safety Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start
  • TDAP vaccine within 10 years (after age 19) or declination accepted
  • Negative TB test (QGold) within 1 year; for positive responders, negative chest X-ray within 5 years and annual TB questionnaire required
  • Annual TB questionnaire required for all candidates
  • Immunity or vaccination (or declination/booster if low titer) required for:
    • Rubeola (Measles)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Varicella
  • Positive Hepatitis B titer required (vaccine series alone not acceptable; booster or declination accepted if low/equivocal titer)
  • Negative 12-panel drug screen within 90 days of start (not required annually), including amphetamines, barbiturates, cocaine, methaqualone, MDMA, methadone, opiates, oxycodone/oxymorphone, phencyclidine, propoxyphene, 6-acetyl morphine
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or agency declination/exemption required during flu season (ends 3/31); masking required during high transmission periods
  • COVID vaccines preferred but not required; vaccination record or declination/exemption required
  • Respiratory safety clearance required annually and within 1 year of start

Competency and Skills

  • Medication test/pharmacology competency exam as applicable
  • Competency exam as applicable by specialty
  • Annual skills checklist required

Additional Notes

  • No pediatrics involved in this role
  • No weekend shifts or call responsibilities
  • Staffing may affect weekday off schedule (1 weekday off, may fluctuate)
