Job Opportunity: Cath Lab Registered Nurse

Location: Prestonsburg, Kentucky
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Work in the Cath Lab with provided scrubs and lead apron for cases.
  • Must have housing within 30 minutes for STEMI (heart attack) call.
  • Minimum 2 years of nursing experience required; Interventional Radiology (IR) experience is a plus.
  • Previous travel experience preferred but not required.
  • Call schedule: 1-2 calls during the week and 1-2 weekends per month; every other weekend required.
  • Float within scope of practice as needed.
  • Schedule typically follows a 36/48 shift pattern over two weeks.
  • Orientation occurs bi-weekly.
  • Must reside within 75 miles of the facility to be considered.
  • Valid driver’s license required.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Kentucky.
  • Minimum 2 years of Cardiac Cath Lab experience, with at least some experience within the last year.
  • American Heart Association (AHA) Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
  • American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
  • Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement.
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).

Certifications & Competencies

  • BLS and ACLS (AHA only; instructor/provider/RQI accepted).
  • NIH Stroke Certification (required for all RN specialties except OR and Psych).
  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam.
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam (required for all units except Psych, OR, Rehab, and true Med Surg).
  • Core Competency Parts I, II, and III.
  • Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement.

Call & Scheduling

  • 1-2 calls during the week.
  • 1-2 weekends per month, with every other weekend required.
  • Float within scope of practice as needed.

Health & Background Requirements

  • Annual physical exam or physician note within 1 year prior to start, stating clearance to work without restrictions.
  • Fit mask testing completed onsite (PAPRs not accommodated; exemptions reviewed onsite).
  • Immunizations and documentation required:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (valid within 10 years; Td not accepted).
    • Negative TB test (QuantiFERON blood test within 1 year; T-Spot/PPD not accepted).
    • TB questionnaire if positive TB history.
    • Proof of MMR vaccinations or positive titers (Rubeola, Mumps, Rubella).
    • Hepatitis B series, titer, or declination (declination must be within 1 year).
    • Varicella vaccinations or positive titer.
    • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption.
  • Drug testing required within 30 days of start, using a specific 9-panel bundle excluding THC, with expanded opiates and oxycodone. Annual updates required.
  • Background checks including national and county searches, sex offender registry, and other federal/state databases required within 30 days prior to start.

Documentation & Verification

  • Valid government-issued photo ID (driver’s license or state ID).
  • Employment application/resume with education and work history.
  • Two professional references within 1 year of start date (one must be a supervisor or higher).
  • 7-year work history verification through a third-party vendor or attestation letters if verification attempts fail.
  • State-specific registry verifications as applicable (e.g., Kentucky Vulnerable Adult Maltreatment Registry).
  • Annual skills checklist and competency exams.

Additional Notes

  • Candidates must not be submitted to more than one job at a time.
  • Assignment confirmation must be submitted within 24 hours of offer acceptance.
  • Prior travel experience is preferred but not mandatory.
