Registered Nurse - Med/Tele and PCU Unit

Location: Saint Louis, Missouri
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Unit & Patient Population

  • Blended Med/Tele and Progressive Care Unit (PCU)
  • Primary service lines: thoracic surgery, vascular surgery, urology, general surgery, and general medicine
  • Patient ratios:
    • MedSurg/Tele: 1:5
    • PCU: 1:3

Experience & Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of nursing experience required (higher value confirmed)
  • PCU experience preferred but not required if strong MedSurg/Tele background
  • First-time travel nurses accepted
  • Weekend shifts required every other weekend
  • Prior travel experience not explicitly required

Certifications & Licenses

  • Required: BCLS (Basic Life Support)
  • Preferred: NIH Stroke Certification, ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • EPIC charting system experience required
  • Missouri RN license or Compact RN license required

Job Duties & Expectations

  • Floating within scope to MedSurg and MedSurg/Tele units as needed
  • Charting and documentation using EPIC system

Required Qualifications Summary

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Missouri
  • Minimum 2 years of Med Surg / Telemetry nursing experience, with at least some experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
  • Experience with EPIC electronic health record system
  • Ability to work every other weekend
  • Flexibility to float within MedSurg and Telemetry units

Health & Compliance Requirements (Summary)

  • Criminal background check within 12 months
  • Negative drug screen within 12 months
  • Physical exam indicating good health within 1 year
  • TB test (PPD, Qgold, or TSPOT) within 12 months
  • Flu vaccine or approved medical/religious exemption required annually during flu season
  • COVID vaccination preferred
  • OSHA Respirator Clearance required prior to start for fit testing
  • Fit testing completed onsite during first week of orientation
  • Completion of required orientation modules and facility-specific documents prior to or at start

Orientation & Onboarding

  • Completion of facility-specific orientation checklists during first week
  • Required to sign confidentiality, security, and ethical conduct agreements
  • Must complete all assigned training modules annually

This position offers an opportunity to work in a dynamic Med/Tele and PCU environment with a variety of surgical and medical patients, requiring strong clinical skills, flexibility, and proficiency with EPIC documentation.
