Physical Therapist - Rehabilitation Therapy (Contract)

Location: Lawrence, Massachusetts
Employment Type: Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Summary

The Physical Therapist provides physical therapy services to residents to maximize their functional abilities and independence in activities of daily living. This role involves partnering with residents, caregivers, and the healthcare team to develop and implement therapeutic plans of care.


Key Responsibilities

  • Perform evaluative and therapeutic procedures under physician or healthcare provider orders.
  • Evaluate residents and establish therapeutic plans including goals, frequency, duration, and modalities.
  • Incorporate resident and caregiver input into therapy goals.
  • Consult with physicians and healthcare team members regarding care plans and discharge needs.
  • Monitor and adjust treatment plans based on resident progress.
  • Document all interactions and treatments in the Electronic Medical Record clearly and accessibly.
  • Recommend and instruct on appropriate assistive devices.
  • Provide education to residents and caregivers, documenting teaching outcomes.
  • Collaborate with Physical Therapist Assistants and other therapy professionals.
  • Comply with Medicare, Medicaid, and other reimbursement regulations in documentation.
  • Provide in-service education and maintain clinical skills through ongoing learning.
  • Assist in developing new rehabilitation programs and services.
  • Maintain awareness of professional issues and share relevant information with staff.
  • Supervise assistant-level staff as appropriate, ensuring compliance with state and professional standards.
  • Mentor new staff during orientation and ensure completion of competencies.
  • Maintain cleanliness and infection control in clinical and office areas.
  • Maintain required licenses, certifications, and complete annual compliance courses.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s or Doctorate preferred.
  • Active Physical Therapist license in Massachusetts.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification preferred.
  • Prior experience in long-term care or skilled nursing facility preferred.
  • Strong verbal, written, and presentation communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in an interdisciplinary team.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent time management and documentation skills.
  • Compassionate, resident-centered care approach.
  • Ability to speak, read, write, and understand English instructions.

Physical Demands

  • Ability to perform tasks involving sitting, standing, walking, bending, stooping, twisting, and reaching.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds; lifting over 50 pounds requires two-person assistance.
  • Frequent lifting/carrying up to 20 pounds.
  • Role involves a high level of responsibility for quality care.
