Department & Environment

• Trauma Level: Stroke and STEMI receiving; Level 2 for adults and pediatrics
• ER Size: 35 beds with 2 trauma bays
• Fast Track Area: Yes, 8 beds
• Separate Triage Area: Yes, using ESI triage algorithm; travelers can perform triage
• Psych/Seclusion Rooms: Yes, staffed by ER nurses
• Security: In-house 24/7 during highest volume times
• Average Patients per Day: 111
• Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:4
• Common Diagnoses: Gunshot wounds, violent crime injuries, strokes, STEMI, mental health issues, pediatric respiratory illnesses and fractures, trauma patients
• Common Drips: All critical care drips
• ED Providers: Combination of physicians and mid-level providers; up to 2 MDs and 3 mid-levels during peak times
• Support Staff: Charge nurse team lead 24/7; LPNs on nights; techs and paramedics assist with tech duties, IVs, blood draws, and EKGs
• Respiratory Therapy: RTs respond to all codes and cover respiratory tasks (not housed in ER)
• Imaging: X-Ray and CT located next door; nurses transport critical patients and after-hours patients
• Lab Draws: Performed by RNs and techs

Required Certifications

• BLS (Basic Life Support)
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
• PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
• TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) — may be waived with strong ER experience

Experience Requirements

• Minimum 2 years of recent ER nursing experience (preference for more)
• Prior travel experience required
• EPIC electronic medical record experience required

Scheduling & Orientation

• Multiple start times between 5 PM and 9 PM
• Shift lengths vary: 6, 8, 10, 12, 1, 3, 6 hours (schedule set by manager)
• Weekend and holiday shifts required every other week
• No call or standby requirements
• No floating requirements
• Unit-specific orientation: One 12-hour shift
