Registered Nurse – Family Birthing Center

Location: Redding, California
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Summary

Seeking an experienced Labor & Delivery (L/D) RN for a travel assignment in a Family Birthing Center. The unit includes 19 postpartum beds, 12 L&D beds, 2 ORs, and 1 PACU. The facility handles low and high-risk deliveries and has a Level III NICU.

Work Schedule

Night shifts, 12 hours per shift (6:45 PM – 7:15 AM)
36 hours per week
Weekend requirement: 3 weekend shifts in a 4-week schedule (Saturday/Sunday days; Friday/Saturday nights)
Holidays: Work integrated with permanent staff holiday rotation
Floating: May float to Pediatrics (couplets) and NICU (feeders & growers only with prior experience)
Orientation: 2-3 shifts depending on circulating experience (circulating not required)

Patient Care & Environment

Patient ratios follow California state guidelines, ranging from 1:4 to 1:1
Use of Cerner EMR and Fetal Link for fetal surveillance
No ventilators on unit
Laborist (OB physician) available in-house 24/7
Respiratory Therapy and Pharmacy available 24/7
No IV team; nurse performs IV duties
No nurse aides; OB techs handle scrubbing and desk coverage
Common diagnoses: low and high-risk deliveries; transfer out babies with congenital defects requiring immediate surgery
Peak census periods: July and October
Scrub color provided by hospital

Required Certifications & Licenses

Active California RN license
BLS (Basic Life Support)
ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
AWHONN (Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses) certification
COVID-19 vaccination with certification required

Experience Requirements

Minimum 2 years of Labor & Delivery nursing experience

Additional Requirements

Telemetry, L/D, Emergency, and Critical Care RNs must pass a proctored Dysrhythmia Test on day one (pass/fail)
No telemetry duties on this unit; fetal heart monitoring uses Phillips FHM system

Leadership & Support

Charge Nurse: Clinical Supervisor available 6-7 days/week and staff Team Lead
Nurse Manager available Monday through Friday
