Job Opportunity: Surgical Technologist

Location

Job Description

  • Function as a member of the multidisciplinary surgical team to provide a safe environment for surgical patients of all ages.
  • Assist perioperative nurses with patient care and prepare/maintain supplies in the operating room (OR).
  • Perform scrub role: prepare, organize, and anticipate needed instruments, supplies, and equipment for safe patient care and operative procedures.
  • May apply skin staples, skin sealant, and steristrips after closure by credentialed providers.
  • Practice aseptic technique and infection control principles in the OR.
  • Pass surgical instruments and supplies safely and efficiently in the OR and labor and delivery room.
  • Identify, preserve, and manage tissue and fluid specimens and cultures.
  • Manage supplies, instruments, and equipment according to procedure.
  • Assist with perioperative patient care including transporting, positioning, and counting/prepping surgical instruments.
  • Deliver medications to the OR and prepare medications for use on the sterile field under supervision.
  • Participate in unit activities, staff meetings, and committees.

Equipment Used

  • Electronic charting systems and OR video/routing equipment.
  • Surgical equipment including Storz Video, Midas, Stryker drills, Leica Microscopes, cautery machines, morcellator, fluid warmers/coolers.
  • Surgical beds and positioning equipment such as Jackson spine and fracture tables, Tenent positioner, Skytron and Getinge OR beds.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in a busy surgical area.
  • Strong orthopedic experience, including total joints and fracture tables.
  • Associate's Degree in Surgical Technology or successful completion of a formal Surgical Technologist program (on-the-job training not accepted).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (AHA or ARC).
  • Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) preferred.
  • Prior travel experience required.

Schedule

  • Shift: 1100 to 2130
  • 40 hours per week
  • Some on-call may be required depending on volume.

Additional Information

  • Floating to another OR location approximately 3 miles away may be required.
  • Surgical suite consists of 7 rooms.
  • Scrubs provided; no shoes with holes allowed.
  • Orientation includes hands-on training during the first week focusing on common cases for the shift.
