Registered Nurse - Intermediate Care

Location: Wausau, Wisconsin

Contract Details

• Length: 13 weeks
• Start Date: 2/23/2026
• Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week
• Shift: 12-hour night shifts (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
• Weekend/Holiday: Every other weekend and every other holiday
• Call Requirements: May be placed on call during low census; minimum 2-hour callback pay

Unit Information

• 36-bed Medical-Surgical Intermediate Care unit
• Heavy telemetry patient population
• Patient conditions include: stable and weaning ventilators/tracheostomies, sepsis, trauma, alcohol detox, GI bleed, colostomy/ileostomy care, chest tubes, traumatic brain injury, orthopedic trauma, spinal cord injury, stroke
• Patient ratio: 4:1 (Primary Patients/Insulin Drips)
• Float to all inpatient units as needed, typically higher acuity units

Requirements

• Licenses/Certifications:

  • Wisconsin RN License
  • BLS and ACLS certifications required
• Experience:

  • Minimum 2+ years in Stepdown/Intermediate Care/PCU required (this is firm)
  • ICU experience preferred
  • Trauma Level II experience preferred
  • Ventilator and trach care experience required
• Prior Travel Experience: At least 1 prior travel contract required
• Charting: EPIC charting experience preferred

Additional Information

• Must be able to work independently, manage change well, and complete tasks in a fast-paced environment
• Scrub colors: any color allowed
• During flu season, travelers declining flu and COVID vaccinations must wear a mask at all times per facility policy (mandatory compliance)
• Contract ends on a Sunday (not Saturday)
• Low census hours (up to 36) are unbillable but may require call-back with pay if called in

This position is ideal for experienced Intermediate Care nurses with ventilator and trauma care skills who have prior travel experience and are comfortable working night shifts in a fast-paced, telemetry-heavy environment.
