Registered Nurse – Cardiovascular Operating Room

Job Description

• Work primarily in the Cardiovascular Operating Room with a focus on assisting anesthesia providers in cardiothoracic, trauma, elective, and general surgeries.
• Support includes assisting with intubations, fiber optic scopes, sterile techniques for central lines, arterial lines, lumbar drains, Swan Ganz catheters, IV starts, lab draws, medication pump setups, and operating Cell Saver, Belmont, and Level I equipment.
• Assigned to 4-5 operating rooms per day within a unit of 21 ORs covering multiple specialties.
• On-call responsibilities include 1 overnight call and 1 backup call shift weekly, plus 2-3 weekends and 1 holiday per rotation, with a 30-minute response time requiring a vehicle.
• Shift schedule: Monday to Friday, various day shifts (7:00 AM – 3:30 PM), approximately 40 hours per week guaranteed (except during holidays or orientation week).
• Orientation: 2-week training period with additional anesthesia skill development.
• Must be flexible, resilient, socially adept, and able to manage change well. Critical thinking and strong knowledge of OR cases are essential.

Required Qualifications

• Current Wisconsin RN license or compact RN license.
• Minimum 3 years of Operating Room experience with anesthesia experience required.
• Prior travel experience required.
• Diploma or degree in nursing (Associate’s or Bachelor’s).
• Certifications: AHA or ARC BLS and ACLS required.
• Experience with Epic charting system required.
• Familiarity with Cell Saver and Belmont equipment required.

Additional Information

• Radius rule: Must live more than 50 miles from the facility.
• Vehicle required due to on-call response time.
• Scrub colors provided.
• Flu season policy: Mandatory flu and COVID vaccination or mask-wearing at all times per facility policy.
• Weekend and holiday rotation every 3rd to 4th weekend and holiday.
• GSA hours not guaranteed during orientation week.
• Strong OR/CVOR circulating experience required; prior conscious sedation experience is a plus.
• Willingness to perform downtime tasks as needed.
