Registered Nurse – Medical Surgical / Telemetry

Shift: 12-hour Days (6:30 AM – 7:00 PM)

Job Description

• Work on a Neuro Cardiac Unit caring for complex Med/Surg/Telemetry patients including post cardiac catheterizations with interventions, CVA/TIA, ICDs, complex abdominal surgeries, oncology, and post-op cranial patients (POD 2).
• Float within skillset primarily between two nearby campuses (8 to 11 miles apart) with 2-hour notice for cross-campus float; mid-shift float within the same campus is common.
• Weekend/Holiday Requirement: Work three weekends every six weeks and every other holiday.
• No on-call or call-back required.
• Unit size: 32 beds. Nurse-to-patient ratio on days typically 1:4-5 (rarely 1:6).

Required Qualifications

• Current active compact Registered Nurse license.
• AHA BLS certification.
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
• Minimum 2 years of strong experience in Telemetry and Medical-Surgical nursing.
• At least 1 prior travel nursing assignment completed.
• Experience in a trauma level II facility.
• Recent experience with EPIC electronic charting system (checkoff class required).
• Strong neuro assessment skills including NIHSS and dysphagia screening.
• Ability to interpret Telemetry and 12-lead EKGs (travelers must pass telemetry tests).
• Competent in initiating and titrating drips (e.g., insulin, cardiac meds, heparin).
• Experience with heart catheterization recovery (femoral and TR bands).
• Strong assessment and critical thinking skills.

Preferred Skills

• Experience with NG/PEG tubes, peripheral IV insertion, Tikosyn administration, and chest tubes.
• Resilient, adaptable to change, and socially engaging.

Additional Information

• Guaranteed minimum 36 hours per week (48 hours accepted upon request). Overtime applies after 52 hours on 48-hour contracts.
• Strict attendance policy: 3 call-ins may result in termination.
• Scrub color: Navy blue; no competing health system or agency logos allowed.
• Teaching hospital environment; may require precepting students and new hires.
• COVID-19 vaccine not currently required (subject to change).
• Local candidates within 40 miles are not eligible.
• Orientation occurs bi-weekly. GSA hours not guaranteed during orientation week.
