Job Description

Seeking an Acute Care Registered Nurse to provide autonomous nursing care in an acute hospital setting. The role involves working closely with hospital staff to assess, troubleshoot, and make critical decisions for patients, primarily those requiring acute hemodialysis and other renal therapies.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver 1:1 or 2:1 acute hemodialysis care to in-patients with chronic kidney disease, acute kidney injury (AKI), and transplant patients.
• Educate patients and families about their treatment and condition.
• Provide specialized care for patients with multiple co-morbidities and acute conditions requiring complex treatment plans.
• Administer nephrology care across various renal therapies including peritoneal dialysis, continuous renal replacement therapy, and apheresis.
• Work autonomously in a hospital setting, making sound clinical decisions daily.
• Adapt to unpredictable patient assignments and schedules, including long days and on-call shifts.
• Be flexible with home clinic placement and potential floating to various clinics during and after training.
• Work mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.

Requirements

Experience

• Minimum 1 year of recent acute dialysis experience (within the last 2 years).
• Experience assessing, troubleshooting, and making sound clinical recommendations in stressful situations.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule with mandatory overtime.
• Ability to travel to multiple hospitals within the area as needed.

Skills & Physical Requirements

• Physical ability to push/pull large hemodialysis machines with little or no assistance.
• Basic computer skills, including proficiency in MS Word and Outlook.

Licensure

• Current and valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Missouri.

Preferred (Not Required)

• Hemodialysis nursing experience in acute or chronic settings.
• Experience in Medical/Surgical, ICU, CCU, or Emergency Room settings.
• Certified Hemodialysis Nurse (CHN) credential.

• Prior travel experience is not explicitly required for this position.
• Schedule varies by hospital system; weekly schedules are provided in advance but daily schedules may change based on patient needs.
• Must be within a commutable distance to assigned hospitals based on on-call requirements.
