Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (RN) - Hemodialysis (Contract)

Job Summary

Provide safe, competent, quality nursing care in an inpatient hemodialysis unit. Deliver care based on nursing theory, research, and evidence-based practice to a designated group of patients and their families.


Key Responsibilities

Patient Care

  • Deliver patient care using Relationship Centered Care and nursing process principles.
  • Assess and evaluate patient needs; apply critical thinking in care management.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams to develop and evaluate care plans.
  • Educate patients and caregivers on care plans, health promotion, and disease prevention.
  • Communicate professionally with patients, families, and care teams.
  • Manage assignments within a Modified Primary Nursing care delivery model.

Patient Experience

  • Facilitate patient-centered care activities such as bedside shift reports, purposeful hourly rounding, medication reviews, and discharge planning.
  • Respect patient values, preferences, cultural diversity, and expressed needs.
  • Establish therapeutic relationships with patients and families.
  • Use evidence-based practices to improve patient perceptions of care.
  • Address patient and family concerns promptly and escalate as needed.
  • Demonstrate empathy, respect, and active listening.

Quality and Safety

  • Practice safe, efficient, patient-centered care and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Demonstrate clinical skills essential to quality and safety.
  • Participate in quality improvement projects, evidence-based practice activities, and nursing research.
  • Follow institutional protocols to identify and avoid high-risk behaviors.
  • Document nursing practice accurately to support quality initiatives.

Operations

  • Perform charge nurse duties as assigned.
  • Coordinate supply and inventory management with nursing leadership.
  • Escalate material or staffing shortages appropriately.
  • Promote cost-effective patient care resource utilization.
  • Facilitate patient throughput during shifts.

Professional Development

  • Support clinical colleagues, patients, families, and healthcare team members.
  • Advance clinical competence from novice to expert.
  • Maintain a professional image and communicate with respect and empathy.
  • Incorporate ethical principles in decision-making.
  • Encourage lifelong learning, scholarship, and innovation.
  • Participate in specialty practice councils, nursing committees, and unit initiatives.

Required Qualifications

  • Current New York State RN License
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Minimum 2 years RN experience (overall)
  • Minimum 2 years experience in Hemodialysis and Medical-Surgical nursing
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred; Associate degree considered with relevant experience or active BSN matriculation
  • EPIC electronic health record experience highly preferred
  • Charge nurse experience preferred
  • Staffing ratio guideline: 1 nurse to 2 patients
  • Schedule: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each, including weekends, holidays, and on-call duties

  • Prior travel experience is required for travel positions (minimum 1 year travel experience), but not required for per diem roles.
