Registered Nurse - MICU (Travel/Contract)

Location: Dayton, Ohio
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Night (4 shifts of 12 hours each, 7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
Hours per Week: 48

Unit Overview

• 40-bed, fast-paced, high acuity Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU)
• Bedside procedures include Endoscopy, Bronchoscopy, Tracheostomy, and G-Tube placement
• Frequently care for patients immediately post-operation
• Special equipment used: ICP monitoring, arterial lines, Flotrac monitoring, BIS, and train of four
• Uniform: Navy Blue Scrubs
• Targeted patient ratios: 1 nurse to 2-3 patients

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Ohio
• Minimum 1.5 years of ICU (Intensive Care Unit) experience, with ICU experience within the last year
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Experience with Epic electronic health record system
• BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA)
• ACLS certification

Floating and Assignment Details

• Traveler will float as needed at employer’s discretion, including to specialty clusters or high-risk respiratory/COVID units
• Floating locations may include main campus and nearby satellite campuses within 10-15 miles
• Employer reserves the right to cancel up to 2 shifts per 13-week contract due to low census, and to cancel the agreement with 2 weeks’ notice without penalty
• Travelers are not eligible for employee incentives

Required Certifications and Competencies

• BLS (AHA only, or acceptable placeholder while AHA pending)
• ACLS (AHA only, required for all RNs except Labor & Delivery)
• Trachs competency
• Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam (must pass with 80% or higher)
• Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (within 2 years)
• NIH Stroke Certification (required within 12 months prior to start and updated annually; exceptions apply for certain units)

Health and Compliance Requirements

• Government-issued photo ID required
• 7-year criminal background check including SSN trace, national and multi-state checks, and sex offender registry
• Drug screening: Negative 9 or 10 panel drug screen including marijuana panel within 12 months prior to documentation due date; lab confirmation required for positives
• Physical exam within 2 years indicating fitness to work and free of communicable diseases
• Respiratory protection medical questionnaire and clearance required prior to orientation
• Annual health questionnaire required, including updated TB screening or chest x-ray if past positive TB
• Immunizations or immunity attestations required for:

  • Measles (Rubeola)
  • Mumps
  • Rubella
  • Varicella
  • Hepatitis B vaccination series, immune titer, or declination (not required for subcontractors)
• Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (declinations not accepted)

Documentation and Verification

• Current resume or employment application required
• Two professional references within 2 years required; at least one must be a manager, supervisor, or charge nurse
• Skills checklist updated within 1 year prior to documentation due date and annually thereafter
• Education verification and licensure primary source verification required
• E-Verify and I-9 compliance required prior to start

Additional Notes

• Request for time off (RTO) must be submitted with initial application; no RTO added after offer
• RTO approval is at manager’s discretion
• Floating assignments will be medically appropriate and support nursing care teams as needed
