Registered Nurse - Telemetry (Travel/Contract)

Location: Lexington, Kentucky
Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each; 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
Contract Length: 14 weeks

Job Summary

• Telemetry nursing position requiring 2 years of experience in Telemetry or Medical-Surgical nursing.
• Local travelers within 100 miles are not accepted for this role.

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Kentucky.
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
• Minimum 2 years of Telemetry nursing experience, with at least some experience within the last year.
• BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification.
• Pass/fail competency testing including EKG/Dysrhythmia and Medication/Pharmacology exams.

Background and Compliance Requirements

• Background checks including:

  • County criminal background for all locations lived/worked in last 7 years.
  • National criminal and sex offender searches.
  • Education verification or signed official transcript/diploma.
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG exclusion checks within 30 days of start and annually.
• Employment verification covering 7 years required, with no unexplained gaps over 30 days.
• Two supervisor references verified within 6 months of start, preferably managers or direct supervisors.

Health and Immunization Requirements

• Physical exam within 1 year of start, signed by MD, NP, or PA, confirming good health and ability to perform job duties.
• Fit mask test within 1 year, updated annually (acceptable masks include Halyard, 3M N95 models).
• Immunizations/vaccinations required with annual updates or valid exemptions:

  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years)
  • Negative TB test (PPD or equivalent) within 1 year, with chest X-ray if history positive.
  • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella: Positive titer or 2 MMR vaccines; booster if equivocal/negative.
  • Varicella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines; booster if equivocal/negative.
  • Hepatitis B: Positive titer, completed series, or declination (renewed annually).
  • Seasonal Flu vaccination/documentation required year-round with exemptions accepted.
  • COVID-19 initial vaccine series or medical/religious exemption required; booster preferred but not mandatory.
• Drug screening within 1 year of start, updated annually, covering multiple substances; rapid drug screens not accepted.

Competency and Skills Requirements

• Must pass facility-specific competency exams including:

  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam (passing score ≥80%).
  • Unit-specific competency exams, updated annually.
  • RN Math Ability competency exam annually (basic or advanced as assigned).
  • Pass/Fail EKG/Dysrhythmia exam with strict passing criteria; two attempts allowed for travelers only.
• Skills checklists as required by specialty/unit, updated annually.

• Candidates must have a renewal plan in place for any certifications or documents expiring during the contract.
• Facility-specific policies and agreements (e.g., confidentiality, acceptable use, electronic communications) must be signed prior to start.
• Candidates must complete required facility orientation and testing within specified timeframes to avoid cancellation.
