Hospice Registered Nurse - Spokane Valley, Washington

Job Details

  • Employment Type: Travel/Contract
  • Contract Length: 14 weeks
  • Shift: Day shift, 8 hours per day (8:00 AM - 4:30 PM), 40 hours per week
  • Start Date: ASAP
  • Patient Ratios: 1:1 (may visit up to 6 patients per day; 30 productivity points standard)
  • Location: Spokane Valley and surrounding areas (up to 50+ miles radius)
  • Locals Accepted: Yes, within 50-75 mile radius
  • Guaranteed Hours: Facility may call off up to one shift per pay period (every two weeks)
  • Transportation: Traveler must have own transportation

  • Charting system: EPIC / Home Care Home Base (HCHB) with laptop provided
  • Attire: Any basic color scrubs
  • Parking: Free
  • Mileage Reimbursement: IRS standard

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Washington
  • Minimum 1 year of hospice nursing experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • Experience with Homecare Homebase (HCHB) documentation system

Required Documentation & Compliance

  • Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID)
  • Social Security Card (as applicable)
  • Background Check within 90 days covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years; must be updated annually
  • Education Verification (nursing degree verification required)
  • NURSYS license verification for RNs
  • Physical Exam within 1 year of start, signed by MD, NP, PA, or DO, indicating ability to work with or without accommodation
  • Immunizations and Health Requirements:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years; declination accepted)
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months, updated annually
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer with acceptable alternatives
    • Hepatitis B vaccination or signed declination
    • Varicella vaccination or positive titer with acceptable alternatives
    • Seasonal Flu vaccine during flu season or declination
    • COVID vaccination record preferred; declinations accepted with adherence to infection prevention measures
  • Drug Screening: 9-panel drug screen within 12 months (instant acceptable)
  • Respiratory Safety Clearance: Required annually for travel candidates
  • Fit Mask Testing: Required annually for travel candidates (onsite testing available if needed)
  • References: Minimum 2 references covering 1 year of employment in hospice or comparable specialty within last 3 years
  • Employment Application: Must include at least last 5 years of employment with month/year format
  • Skills Checklist: Required and must be updated annually

Training & Competencies

  • Annual completion of regulatory and specialty-specific training modules via LMS (Workramp)
  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam as applicable
  • EPIC training modules completion required within a week of orientation

Additional Notes

  • Traveler is expected to have reliable transportation due to patient grouping and travel radius
  • Locals within 50-75 miles are accepted at the same rate
  • Floating to other units or block scheduling is not available
  • Background checks include multiple state and federal databases and must be current
  • Physical exam and immunizations must be current and compliant with facility policies
  • No weekend or on-call shifts required
