Critical Care Float Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Saint Louis, Missouri
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each, 18:45–7:15)
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Description

• ICU Float position covering multiple ICUs: Trauma, Oncology, Cardiac/Heart and Vascular, Neurology, Medicine, and COVID units.
• When ICU needs are low, float to inpatient floors (ratio max 1:3) or non-critical care units; may also be utilized as a patient sitter.
• ICU nurse-to-patient ratio: 2:1 for all shifts.
• Weekend requirement: every other weekend with a minimum of 6 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule, plus holiday rotation.
• No specific CVICU experience required, but preferred cardiac skills include: Swans-hemodynamic interpretation, IABP, Impella, ECMO, vasoactive drips, CRRT.
• Required skills: ventilator management, IV starts, telemetry, conscious sedation, triage.
• Preferred skills: chemo administration, CCRN, ONS, TNCC, CPI certifications, ICP monitoring, PA lines, Level 1 Trauma experience.
• Must be strong, independent, and experienced ICU nurse.
• Past EPIC charting experience preferred.

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Missouri
• Minimum 2 years of Critical Care Float experience, including recent experience within the last year
• Completed at least one travel assignment
• Experience in ICU (Intensive Care Unit) and CVICU (Cardiac/Vascular Intensive Care Unit)
• Certifications required:

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by the American Heart Association
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
• Education: Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

• Government-issued ID required.
• Criminal background check within 6 months, including statewide and nationwide searches, plus international if applicable.
• Quarterly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required.
• Education verification of highest nursing degree required before start.
• Professional license primary source verification (NURSYS for Missouri).
• Drug testing within 1 year, including a comprehensive panel, must be current throughout assignment.
• Physical exam within 1 year of start.
• Fit mask test (N95) required and must be renewed annually.
• Immunizations and health screenings required:

  • Tdap vaccine or declination (with exceptions for certain units)
  • Negative TB test or chest x-ray per protocol
  • Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella immunity or vaccination/declination as applicable
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption during flu season
• Facility-specific documents: HIPAA acknowledgement, latex allergy questionnaire, confidentiality form, regulatory compliance education, hand hygiene, fingernail, and dress code policies must be reviewed and signed prior to start.
• Badge photo required (head and shoulders, white background, no obstructions, taken within 6 months).
• Employment application and unit-specific skills checklist required within 1 year of start. Oncology skills checklist required if assigned to Oncology unit.
